I am looking for a multi-effects pedal with great tone. I'm hoping to find something that won't break the bank any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :thanks:

Re: Need help choosing a multi-effects pedal

What's your price range? And are you wanting amp modeling are just effects?

Re: Need help choosing a multi-effects pedal

A few years back I watched a guy play covers using a Boss multi effect. Not sure of the model # but he had some very impressive tone. He was playing popular covers (it was a luncheon function) and his transition to different sounds was very smooth.

If you go multi fx, I'd recommend Boss.

I still own a Korg ax1000. great sounding multi fx unit and easy to use. If you can find one or somethign similar, I'd be confident in recommending that too.

Re: Need help choosing a multi-effects pedal

tell us more...price range, presets, models, fx, both, music styles, purpose (recording or gigs or both)

a lot of guys wll poo-poo these, but honestly, the sound from ev en cheap ones these days is amazing. really a matter of picking the right box with the features YOU need, then taking the time to program it well.

Even a Bogner can sound like crap for the wrong purpose with the knobs set poorly...

Re: Need help choosing a multi-effects pedal

I have a GNX3000
by digitech

it has some drum loops
tons of effects and amp models
recording software and amp/effect editing software
headphone outs for practice

the GNX line is discontinued
but they have the equivalent in the RP line

all the models and effects are nice
in fact
it is so handy, I rarely warm up my vintage Tweed amp

Re: Need help choosing a multi-effects pedal

It's not really cheap by any stretch but I got a TC Electronic Nova System for Christmas. That, so far at least, covers everything I've had use for. Actually has a half decent distortion and overdrive too.

Tonelab LE

Line 6 of Boss ME-70 if you want to sound like a lot of other players.
Stay away from Zoom, Digitech and TC Electronics - sound too digital!

Re: Need help choosing a multi-effects pedal

I have both the Boss ME70 and the Digitech RP1000. I like them both, for different reasons. If you just want some simple stomp FX, the ME70 is hard to beat. You cannot use the 4 cable method with this though.

The RP1000 sounds quite good, esp direct to PA. I like the fact that it is easily manipulated by computer via USB - very easy interface. This machine also give lots of flexibility as far as interfacing with an amp. The wealth of modeled amps and FX will keep you busy for a while!

The ME70 can run on batteries - I love that. One less cord to worry about. However, the COSM amp models are rather dated sounding and the ME70 does not sound particularly great direct to PA.

I am familiar with the Vox modeling and it is quite good. The Tonelabs are a good value as well.

Re: Need help choosing a multi-effects pedal

go to a store and audition as many as possible. Fender will be releasing a Mustang Floor (i'd be willing to bet it kicks some serious arse). With that said the M series from Line 6 is pretty good. Anymore Vox, Line 6, Digitech, Boss, TC Electronic (might be a bit high end for your needs depending on budget), Fender, etc all make some pretty terrific units. It's just going to boil down to the particular fx/types of sounds you are after (the different brands have their various pros and cons). The features you want. And how much you are willing to spend.

If you like the layout and simplicity of individual stompoxes the Boss ME70 is a great way to go, good selection of fx, easy to use, and sounds great (as far as sounding dated, idk what that's supposed to mean, isn't the point of modeling to sound like old gear?).

and the remarks about TC Electronics sounding too digital and such should be taken with a complete grain of salt. Clearly people that once again lack experience in the real world using these products.

I might also like to add while having a multi fx unit can be convenient and fun it's no substitute for well picked individual stomp boxes perhaps depending on your budget you should consider getting a few key pedals.

Like if you were into blues an overdrive, wah, and uni-vibe clone would be wise starting points.

Obviously that's just one example depending on style and such things could change. I've tried finding multi fx units I loved and I couldn't do it so I went back to playing a tube amp (egnater tweaker) and having two pedalboards worth of stompboxes.

Re: Need help choosing a multi-effects pedal

I have a Digitech RP-70 which my wife got me for X-mas . They generally sell for $79.99 and are well worth the price.

Re: Need help choosing a multi-effects pedal

I like that the Boss ME-70 can run on a simple 9 volt power supply such as a 1-spot, rather than requiring a special exclusive power adapter.

My only complaint with the ME-70 is the lack of a dedicated, universal tap tempo button like the other units have... such as the Digitech and Line 6 multi-fx units.

Re: Need help choosing a multi-effects pedal

For ease of use, and quality of tones at the same time, you can't beat the Boss ME-50. No amp models, so it's just a bunch of great stomps in front of an amp, and there's no easier multi-effects pedal to set up and use. Also easy to make patches...turn the dials until it sounds right, and hit three buttons.

Re: Need help choosing a multi-effects pedal

Are you looking for amp sim as well or just effects?
If you are looking for amp sim, line 6s are the best sounding imo.
While BOSS is the best when it comes to effects, I just can't bond with their COSM.

Re: Need help choosing a multi-effects pedal

wow lots of response thanks everyone, i like the boss the best specialy. I have a digitech RP 200 but it doesnt have a power supply and i can't find anything that will work, i already tried buying one on Amazon and they sent the wrong one and then wouldn't respond to many e mails. I think i'm going to save and get a good Boss unit like the ME-50.
