Need help choosing pickups for a special guitar.

Re: Need help choosing pickups for a special guitar.

Looking at some demos I found it had a very specific sound, which I'm not really fond of. Thanks for the input anyway.

Portugal :14:

Ok, so you're in Euroland. I can help you with whatever you need.

Did you ever see the PM I sent you some time ago?

I'm a fan of Matsumoku-made guitars, so I've repaired, serviced and and modded many of those, and yours is one of them. Tell me what sound you're looking to achieve, and I'll tell you what you need, in case I don't have it in stock.

PM me.

HTH,

I'm not really confident in the JB because it's a bright guitar.

Again - 35 recommendations without a question about the amp, fx, or style of music let alone the guitar tone. That said - yeah, that's likely a very bright guitar.

For that reason ONLY I'm actually liking Scott's PG/CC rec. I had that in a bright Epiphone for a long while and really loved it. It was my goto Classic Rock guitar, but that was more a matter of style and song choice than anything else.

The PG and CC will balance the guitar very nicely, IMO. However, I might actually go with an A2P in the neck, if the guitar is that bright. I refer to that combo (A2P/CC as Fat City). The A2P is definitely the more modern of the 59/PG/A2P series. And it will also match the CC nicely but in a very different way than the PG. In that guitar it might very well end up "Very nicely balanced highs" city....

That 59/CC combo is a great suggestion whoever made that. One mag swap and BOOM, a2 neck (sort of A2P style) and a C5 - very modern sound in the bridge. But again - that's a very different tone. You will like one, or the other, not both. So let's try not to guess.

And here is something a bit different to think about....a Jazz set! Neck and bridge Jazz. Not sure if you would dig that sound in that guitar though, or not. Might be a touch on the bright side. MAybe not. Definitely an under-appreciated combo.

Given your location, I suggest spending some SERIOUS time getting it right conceptually.

Pup selection problem #1 - getting the WRONG set period due to poor communication, lack of information, and listening to wahoos who just tell you what their fave pup is with no consideration for the tone of THAT instrument, your rig, or style.

Pup selection #2 - listening to the guys who say good tone is just a mag swap away. MAgs can do great things - but they can't turn turds into diamonds. They can however, shine a rough stone to awesomeness.

So - what is your rig and style of music etc...

My Rig:
Digitech RP1000 emulating an AC-30 (I know, emulating, but it has a reeeeeally nice jangly tone) or a Marshall JCM800 through the power amp of a Roland JC-120 (barely colours the sounds and the two 12 inches are great).
For drive I use a Fulltone OCD or a Fuzz Face.
Other effects include a Tape Delay and sometimes a Reverb and a Whammy pedal when I wanna go to C without losing string tightness. Also learning how to use a Cry Baby-

I play anything from blues to hard rock and get psychadelic in the middle. (Radio Moscow, Kamchatka, Allman Brothers, etc...).

Looking back it I sure would have done myself some good including this info to begin with.
