Need help choosing pickups.

Re: Need help choosing pickups.

What amp do you have? And important too, how loud can you turn it up?
To nail something like ACDC with low output buckers you need to turn up your amp pretty loud!

Re: Need help choosing pickups.

I pulled the trigger on a PGb, reverse zebra. I may go get a cover later, i dunno. Got it brand spankin new for 70 bucks.
I'll tell you how it goes in a week.

pearly gates got here yesterday. Looks good enough.

Will be back later with a bit of a review. The initial test was at very low volume at 5 am so once I've given it a workout I'll let you know if I'm in love or not.
Even at low volumes, vs the stock pickup, its a lil warmer than the stock pickup, a lil brighter than a 59. A lot clearer than the stock pickup.
It absolutely screams "this is a les paul" though, even at that volume.

Re: Need help choosing pickups.

Reverse zebras in that guitar look fantastic! I need to get me an agile.

Re: Need help choosing pickups.

I had planned to go covered but it was the only PGb in stock at wymore. I figured I'd say screw a cover I'ma help him move stock

Re: Need help choosing pickups.

so this pickup is great. I thoroughly recommend it.

There's a slight bass rolloff that makes me wanna turn the bass on my amp, but it's not bad.
The alnico II grind and sizzle is there in spades and it freakin sounds boss. I hit my DSL with a boost pedal and just sounds like ZZ Top. It's nuts. The pinch harmonics, oh the pinch harmonics.
Lotsa treble but it's clearer and sweeter than the stock agile pickup. it's really clear sounding.

Try it. I love it. I can't wait to hear the neck pickup. it might be awhile, though.
My glasses broke today so I'm going to divert some guitar $$ to that. *sigh*

Re: Need help choosing pickups.

Thanks for the info fuse, i just ordered my pg set and it should be here in a few days I cant wait.

Re: Need help choosing pickups.

aw you dog ;) I'm a while away from being able to afford the neck pickup. I'm definitely going covered for the neck and thats just more $$$
The glasses I bought were $250 and they're sweet (I love Oakley's prescription stuff. Looks and feels great), but that was my "guitar souping-up" fund.

Re: Need help choosing pickups.

Can't go wrong with the PG set. Great pups. And they split really good too for some good Strat tones. Imho, the PG is one pup that goes great in any guitar, but is exceptional in a LP type. Get Triple Shot Rings to get the full potential out of them.

Re: Need help choosing pickups.

I was originally gonna do a jimmy page wiring but the triple shot seams great. I have no idea why i never looked at it before. Thats going to be a hell of a lot easier than basically rewiring my entire guitar. Thanks
