Need help choosing PUP for MIJ Squier

Hi all, I need some help picking out some new pickups for my Squier. Right now it's configured as SSH with a Floyd Rose trem. My playing styles would be classic rock and some metal. I can't tell you what wood it is made out of but a guess would be Maple neck, basswood body and rosewood fret board, but that's just a guess.

whats the rest of your rig look like? high gain amp?

do you want real singles for clean tones or would you prefer to have a fatter tone with more output

Re: Need help choosing PUP for MIJ Squier

I have a MIA Strat with a JB in the bridge, a Hot Stack in the middle and a lil59 in the neck. It works very well for me but it's definately not a guitar for Strat purists. It's definately a killer guitar for rock and metal though if you like that kind of thing. Schaller Floyd, not the original.

I also added switches for running the JB in parallel and for running the JB with the neck pickup. It's a cool guitar.

I'm running through a Peavey Bandit 112 now but looking at maybe a Marshall down the road. The Guitar has a Schaller built Floyd Rose trem so I'm thinking one of the trembuckers for the bridge. Yeah I like the fatter tone but then again nothing sounds like a single sometimes.

You will have to forgive me. To make a long story short, I'm somewhat new at playing guitar, again. I used to play a lot but then had a family and it's duties became overwhelming and I had to quit. So I'm back learning all over again.

I'm replacing every bit of the electronics in it so we can configure it anyway you want. I will trust you guy's (especially Lew) tonal ability to make this thing sound right. I would also like to say money is not going to be an object. You can even make suggestions on the amp if ya want.

A JB is hard to beat in the bridge of a Strat or other bolt on neck guitar for a rock/hard rock guitar. I would think a Custom Custom would be great too. Add some mids the Floyd will rob. A SH5 custom is nice too, but can get a little too much high end in a Strat..I think they work better on mahogany glue in neck type guitars.

As for the singles, depends on what you want tonewise...ya wanna do the hendrix/SRV thing on the neck? or get closer to a gibson sound?

For middle I'd go with a slightly higher output single..not a HB...but thats my opinion....especially if you put a bucker in the neck and like to use position 2 & 4 for cleans or bluesy stuff

Yeah Robert S., the trem has been replaced. The original stripped the threads and you could not set intonation on a few strings. Almost every bit of hardware has been replaced. I do have a very competent tech at my disposal and he will be doing everything.

So that's 2 for the JB in the bridge, and one in the neck.

Yes I like SRV's tone. Probably never be able to play like that but yes that is a tone I could shoot for.

A little bump.

OK, I've been listening to the sounds files for all the pickups and I'm going to definitely put a JB in the bridge.

Still looking for choices for the neck and middle.

OK JeffB, Yeah I want the SRV in the neck. What's your choice?

Common guy's help a bud out. This is what I have to work with for now.
