Re: need help fast! are the duncan designed pups any good?

They aren't bad, actually they're better than most stock pickups. For $20, I'd say go for it.

i know the 102N is a jazz copy right? what about the 103b?

Re: need help fast! are the duncan designed pups any good?

The 103 is going to be a copy of the Distortion.

Re: need help fast! are the duncan designed pups any good?

the duncan designed are VERY CLOSE to the originals. My 102b sounds like my JB, i can hardly tell the difference. go for it man.

Re: need help fast! are the duncan designed pups any good?

thanks guys! i am grabbing them :)
i really want just the 102n jazz but hey for only $20 why not take the distortion one too :laugh2:

Re: need help fast! are the duncan designed pups any good?

I'll second that. The 102b in my Jackson sounds just like the JB in my Charvel. Pretty cool! :)

Lester - you are really slumming these days! Weren't you in denial of your love of the EMG's just recently. Duncan Designed!

I drink a lot of wine - seriously and for fun! In wine-land we do the "blind tasting" It would be interesting to hear a Dunc Des and a real SD head to head. I would bet most people couldn't tell the difference. What's in a tag? Answer: an additional 100 dollars in price.

It's always funny when someone drops a ben franklin on a supposedly amazing cool bottle and something in the andy jackson range whips it's ass when the labels and the price tags are covered up! You have both - don't you: Set it up, blind fold yourself and get a friend to play. Let us know which you liked better - if you can tell....

Hello all- I am new to this forum and just got back into guitar playing.

I recently bought a Squier Fat Strat with two chrome covered Duncan Designed pickups. They sound great.

Any way to tell what type they are?

Haha, then they both might end up sounding bad!
I'd say to cover up the name on the pickup with electrical tape instead.

I've never noticed that section of the Duncan page, though I've seen 'em in the guitar store. What an interesting idea, buy some of the Duncan Designed to audition the pup, and then upgrade if you really like it (or don't upgrade if you really really like it). If you don't like it, you're only out a few bucks. Too bad they don't have equivalents for the CC's C5's etc, which are sometimes a risky investment. I suppose you could do some mag swapping on your own.

Re: need help fast! are the duncan designed pups any good?

I played a Schecter guitar equipped with Duncan Designed pickups recently at a local shop-- didn't look to see what they were at first, but as I was test driving the guitar, I thought to myself how similar the sound of the bridge pickup was to my 1980 Duncan Custom. Says a lot for either the guitar, pickups, or both.

Re: need help fast! are the duncan designed pups any good?

I have the 102's and are swapping them out for jazz/jb (which they model). For $20 go for it. The bridge pup is nice but the neck 102 is muddy. But for $20 they sound better than anything else you can get for the price.
