Need help finding a replacement bridge 'bucker...

First post, first thread, first problem.

I have a '05 Jackson DK2, and I'm not satisfied with the stock 'bucker. Sounds too damn... well... Ever seen a towel with some hairy mold on it? Imagine that as a sound. What I'm looking for is a p'up that'll clean up nicely upon rolling the volume down on the guitar AND have a good harmonics-response.

Tone-wise, something like Van Halen II & Fair Warning-meets-Ratt's "Way Cool Jr."

Any and all comments welcome...

When I think of early VH, I think of a CC. But pretty much any PAF type pickup will get you in the ballpark as well, if you have the right amp. The DK2 has an alder body with a bolt on maple neck and a Floyd. So the tonal characteristics of the guitar will be pretty even with a little added brightness from the maple bolt on neck and Floyd. I would look at some pickups with a bit more mids and some more lows, nothing too top endy like a JB can be. Of course the JB pretty much defined 80's rock/metal bands like Ratt. So who knows, you might like it. The Custom/Custom has a pretty hefty mid spike, but can be a bit spongy in the lows. The 59 is a great pickup, if you can handle the lower output. I've heard some great recordings of VH tunes with a 59 in the bridge. You just have to rely on your amp a bit more for that.

This is not going to be the standard response, but two of the most overlooked pickups in SD's like are the PATB's, the Blues TB and the Original PATB. I was not a believer until I put a PATB into the bridge of my H/S/S Alvarez Scoop, basswood body, maple/maple neck...very light.

It immediately transformed the guitar into a thick, heavy yet articulate machine. It NAILS 80's tones, and turned a guitar that I rarely picked up into one of my favorites. The look is not standard, but neither is the sound. Give one a try, and if you don't love it, you can use the 21 day exchange policy.

Other options are the CC and the 59'TB. I had both in my Alvarez before the PATB, and the CC was the best, but pales in comparison to the PATB.

I don't mind lower output from an axe. Low output from an amp is another subject entirely...

Sounds like you need a 59/Custom hybrid

You can make one yourself or BachtoRock makes them too (although I you're in Finland?)

Sounds intriguing... But at the moment I'm on a shoestring budget, so I'm gonna have to settle for just either one... For now. :D

And yes, I'm in Finland Funland. Been here for the majority of my life so far...
