Fender Super Twin Reverb Blackface
Has "block" lettering on the left side under the toggles, rather than the "cursive" type on the right
Has a black somewhat see through grille cloth with a plastic "chrome" trim around the outer edge This appears factory, not redone
Has the standard old fender logo on the upper left of grille
Says 135 watts on the back
Has 6 6l6s and a ton of preamp tubes
2 HUGE transformers
Has Emminence 12s in it The backs appear "old style" but the dust cap writing looks to be newer style.
It sounds like crap!
It has all fender tubes which Im guessing are original, I think a retube will make it sound great.
Are these worth anything or are they boat anchors? Overall its in good shape, with just a few minor blems, Id say 8 of 10.
Thank you for your insight
Looks like this but with black tolex.......

Thats it dude! Im not thinking its a great deal, I can have it for 250, but Ill have about 125+ in tubes and it still has those non stock speakers. Ill probably pass.

For $250, buy it. It's gotta have a beautiful clean tone with about $80 in tubes.
At least it's just new enough to not need any work. If you put some Jensens or JBLs in it, it might be your lifetime clean amp.

Clean? Your kidding, right? what for? just kidding.... I dont want to drop that kind of dough unless I can make money off it and it appears they arent worth ****.

Ahhh...the Super Twin...what a hunk of CRAP!!! Ther were NOT 135 watts...they were 180! They were supposed to replace the Twin Reverb, they weigh 2.5 tons, and have the most sterial lifeless tone you could imagine. Fender desighned a few amps with ultra linear output transformers, which are kinda like Hi-Fi of the time, it was done to make the amp as clean as possible, the down side is that it had a really bad tone for playing guitar through. The "active" tone circut in the Super Twin was the pits...either muffeled of razor bright, the reverb circut was a CBS desighn and not only was is a crummy reverb it uses strange tubes thatyou will have a hard time finding. The Eminence speakers had the chrome dust cap so they looked like JBL's...but even the speakers suck...they have this sharp top end that will cut you in half. There is one in a store I go to now and then...it was there when I bought my Twin Reverb...that was in 1995!!! It is the SAME amp, it is priced at $225.00 and NO BODY WANTS IT!!! I am not a Pre-CBS Fender snob, I will say that it was a better time for Fender but I can say good things about almost EVERY Fender tube amp ever...except the Super Twin. Just so you know...yes a have played through several, I have played through the one at my local store a few times (hoping it would get better...no luck there!0, I played a few shows once at a club, I agreed to use a house amp, they said it was a Fender Twin, I said OK, it was a Super Twin (this was the worst sound I have ever had...3 shows of it!). I now feel like I am rambling, so I must close this out...the point is that they stink, they are heavy, they would cost over $200.00 to retube with the strange tubes, and I have never heard a good tone come out of one!

that makes me sad :crying: :crying: :crying: , when I think about the Nuge, I think of WALLS of Blond Twin's sitting on Dual Showman cabs!!!

I didn't know all the details of that thing, other than knowing the late 70's/early 80's wasn't a good time for most Fender amps. I guess I'd pay $250 for it if I played it and it sounded good, but not if it didn't.

Re: Need help identifying a Fender amp......????? PICS

It sounded like horse ass! And from what Ive been finding out that is normal for it. I thought a retube would make it worth something but its got a bad rap as a big fat turd, glad they didnt say yes to my 200 offer.
