Need help in 3 humbucker wiring nightmare!!!!!!

:yell: I need help with a home project( Jackson/Randy Rhoads).It has 3 concentric knobs(a volume knob on top,tone on bottom...2 in 1 pot), a Dimarzio Evolution in the neck /middle and S.Duncan Screamin' Demon in the bridge position,it also has a SG Custom right angle pick up switch. :smack: If any one can help me or send me schematic of what I discribed ,it would be very deeply appreciated!!!!!!!!! :beerchug: :dance:

I'm just getting ready to hit the rack, but I can cover this tomorrow. But there are a couple things you'll have to take into consideration. I'm fairly certain that an SG switch is like an LP switch, so you'll only be able to switch two pups, or two "groups" at once. There are several different ways to handle that problem:

Have one pup connected directly, and switch the other two. For example:

hardwire the middle, switch the neck and bridge for -

1. n & m
2. n, m, b
3. m & b

hardwire the bridge, switch neck and middle for -

1. n & b
2. n, m, b
3. m & b

Or, connect two pups together as a "group", then use the switch to select between them:

Tie the DMZ's together, switch them and the bridge for -

1. n & m
2. n, m, b
3. b

The next problem you get into is that when all three pups are selected, you'll have all three volume pots and all three tone controls in parallel. If you used 500k pots, it would be like one big 167k pot. Add in the three tone controls and it will probably sound awful.

Anyway, think about that, and if you still want to see some options, I'll hit it in the morning.

Note: You may want to use one of those pots as a "blend" pot. Switch two pups, then dial-in the other when you wanted it. That might be cool.

Add in the three tone controls and it will probably sound awful.

As I think about it more, I think we can work around this problem. Three pots but only one cap would decrease resistance, ergo; more highs, as you add in tone controls. But you'ld still have the three-volume problem.

Artie, the 3 way switches Gibson uses for their 3 HB guitars offer bridge - bridge/middle - neck as the switching options. If he has that type of Switchcraft switch then that will be the easiest way to go.

Im sure Gibson has a schematic for that posted on their site. After that, wiring pickups - pots - switch should be easy. If he wires the switch to the #3 volume pot terminals he can isolate the middle pickup by dialing down the bridge pickup.

Use the switch just like normal (N/N+B/B). Then hard wire the middle pup top a volume and use the tone as a master tone. For all three - volume up with N+B selected. Just fade it in and out with the volume as needed.
