Need help in search for the perfect neck pickups

So I play metal, I've already decided to go with the dimebucker for the bridge, but I just dont know which neck pick up to use. I don't want to sound like every other guitarist out there, Im looking for killer distortion that'll send chills down your spine, like maybe a sound combination of Kerry King, Mustaine, and Dimebag, I dont know if thats even possible. I wanna stay with Seymour Duncan of course, and I much rather prefer some passive pickups, maybe Invaders , but that would be the same pickup combination of Mark Morton of Lamb of God. I've been searching everywhere and found nothing to help me.

Mark Morton has signature Dimarzio pickups now.

I will give a good estimate of what pickups you might be interested in: SH1n '59, SH2n Jazz, SH10n full shred, or SH6n distortion.

It would be helpful to know what amp you play through and what guitar the pickup is going into as well.

Also, since you play Metal I'm assuming you're using your neck pick up mainly for leads. Are you going to shred/play fast leads with it, or just the more mellow break downs and slower stuff?

I think a Screamin Demon or a Distortion Neck would work well for you......A PAF type could work great too.....what guitar is the pup going in and what's your amp bro???

Dominion neck is a beauty. I know it's not SD, but it is a brilliant pickup for cleans, and distorted leads. Parallel sounds amazing too.

The killer distorted neck pickup tone of Dimebag, Kerry King and Dave Mustaine?
When I think of those guys' distorted lead tone it's ALL bridge pickup.

I would get a 59. It's the PLAYING that sends chills down our spines.

would like to piggyback on to the OP's question for the search for a neck pup. :cool2:


I have a guitar that's just a tad darker than many of the other fillies in the stable. it's mahogany with maple neck and maple board. Floyd Rose. hum/hum config. each pup has it's own CTS 1 meg ohm pot, no tone, and set up to split. playing high-gain 80s/early-90s rock through an ADA MP-1 into a few 4x12s. standard tuning.

there is currently a C8 in the bridge. am considering a 59/C hybrid or an Alt-8 for the bridge, depending on what finally works out for the neck. :scratchch

I used to use the FSn a lot and like the more defined low end. but have discovered the '59nA4 and am liking it a lot. it's not working out in this guitar - nor has the J/'59nA4... both are too loose on the bottom and dull on the top. :eyecrazy: as stated, I like a tight and defined low end that is not too loose or mushy. would prefer some something that has some brightness and sparkle in the upper mids and the highs... remembering this guitar is a tad darker than my others.

my immediate options include:

Blazebucker neck
Duncan Distortion neck
Full Shred neck (w/ option for an A4)
(other mag options include A2, UOA5, roughcast A5)​

You could always do what Dime did--Use a '59 in the neck and remove the screw poles.

Try the A5 or UOA5 in that Distortion neck....if that doesn't work I think a Jazz bridge in the neck would do what you need.....

My favorite Duncan neck pickups are the Distortion and the PATB neck. For metal stuff, I'd go for the Distortion.

Oh well replying to some of your questions...right now I use A Line 6 but I am trying to save up for a Randall RX120RH and RX412 Half Stack , I have a Jackson Kelly(bolt-on neck), and yes I will be using this pickups for mostly shredding.

He switched out the neck pickup on his guitars a ton but always seemed to go back to the '59. There's a few pics of his lightning bolt Dean that have a vintage style neck humbucker and the pole screws removed. I did that to the stock neck humbucker on my Epi LP. Well, first I threw an A8 magnet in it, which was a big improvement, but then I pulled the screws and it was a HUGE improvement. Still a humbucker but brighter sounding with more clarity since the one coil isn't really active.
