Hails ! I´m running a strat like guitar ... loaded with egm´s (60/81) trough a DSL 401 40w combo (1x12 speaker) ... But i can´t seem to nail a good metal tone ... I´m in quest for something like ... Helloween, old Metallica (kill em´all), Testament kind of tone ... that crunchy high gain, heavy yet not muddy, percursive cutting tone ! (well i guess everyone wants that ! ks LOL)

I have ordered an MXR 10 Band eq yesterday ... and it´s going to arrive next week i hope ... But i was thinking that maybe i´ll need something to boost the amp ... Would it be a distortion pedal in the clean chanel ... or something boosting the dirty chanel ? Uhmm what you suggest ? From mt-2 to those pricy Carl Martin ... im willing to test anything ! ...

Ok tank you !
BTW ! Its good to point ... that i can run this amp trough a 4x12 cab that i have lying here !

Thx

Re: need help on metal tone !

Hi.

You might want to try using lower gain on the distortion channel, and then using an overdrive or distortion pedal. Also, ceramic pickups are better for getting that old powermetal/thrash tone.

Re: need help on metal tone !

You have a GT-6! Just use any of the overdrive pedal models in there to boost your amps disttortion. Set the overdrive to a minimum and the level high. Set your amps distortion to your own taste.

Happy experimenting!

I think i read somewhere ( don't quite remeber though) that kirk runs a tubescreamer threw his amps. You might want to try one of those or another type of overdrive like the Boss versions.

Re: need help on metal tone !

digitech makes some killer X-series pedals these days. There's a distortion one with everything from a rat to a DS-1, and Scott Ian has his pedal too. I bet any of their metal-type pedals would sound great through your amp.

or, do as my friend does, and use a Rat. he nailed a kill em all sound with it and a hiwatt I think.

also consider the BSIAB II from generalguitargadgets.com.

one of my old marshalls was very picky - it only liked the boss super overdrive, but it went freakin nuts with it. total thrash crunch.

Tubescreamer like pedal (maybe on the GT-6?!?) with a bit drive, high level and tone somewhere... sure in the distortion channel
