Need help pls. Twangbanger wiring with surfers

Hi all,

I have 2 surfer neck pups in the neck and middle position and I'm trying to wire a twang banger in the bridge. Initially, I wired it with all the black wires in the pot and white wires in the switch. This gave the bridge a very thick and warm tone which I really like. However, the 2nd position (mid and bridge) was thin. So I rewired the twang banger white lead wire to the pot and black wire to the switch. This gave me the quack in the 2nd position but a thinner bridge sound.

Did I do this correctly or do I need to do something else aside from switching the lead wires? Thanks in advance.

Cheers!

The bridge alone sound should not change when the leads are reversed. May be you made a connection with the hot leads and have a parallel wiring in both positions.

If you choose to reverse the conductor cables on the Twangbanger, you also need to shift the ground connection from the metal elevator plate to whichever solder eyelet has the new "ground" cable.

Question:

I have the neck/mid Surfer and bridge Twangbanger in one Strat - Would it not be better to reverse the wires on the Surfers instead? Reason being I think the magnets need to be grounded on the Twangbanger in case they come in contact with the bottom plate.

Not sure why the OP got a thinner sound with the TB leads reversed, unless its the grounding plate having an effect.

unless it's the grounding plate having an effect.

Jackpot!

You can reverse the cables of one Twangbanger or of two Surfers. It is entirely up to you.

If you go for the Twangbanger, make certain that the stubby link wire between the plate and the soldering eyelet is long enough to reach its new destination.

One other trick that I have tried sucessfully with a Twangbanger/Five-Two/Five-Two set was making the RP/RW pickup the neck position unit. This put the overall phase relationships back to normal.

Many thanks to all especially to funk fingers. I'll reverse the wire connected to the baseplate tonight and hope all is well.

Cheers!
