Need help setting up my recording stuff......

I installed my Oxygen 25 MIDI keyboard.... and I have been using it and I like it. It comes with Ignite which is like a stripped down version of Pro Tools.

I installed my Focusrite Saffire 6 USB Audio Interface tonight and I haven't been able to figure out how to use it. It didn't come with a manual, just a few cds but they seem to be mostly the installer, samplers and stuff. It is installed I guess... but I can't open up any of the programs because it says the MIDI is not properly connected. I plugged in both the interface and keyboard at the same time and the keyboard picks it up in Ignite but it says it needs to be properly connected as well. The interface lights up and everything but I guess I am not setting something up correctly.... any help here guys?

Most driver software wants the hardware to be unplugged when you install it - is that how you did it? You should find a manual on the disks somewhere, or if not, they should be downloadable from the Focusrite site. Maybe time for a read? Same goes for the keyboard too.

Re: Need help setting up my recording stuff......

sounds silly, but at first I didn't plug the midi cords in correctly for my midi drums. out side goes to in socket, and in side to out socket. at first I thought they were marked to match the socket of the same name. not sure if you may have done the same thing.

I usually skip any drivers on disk - seems like they're out dated by the time you get the product; I'd go right to the website, make sure you have the right up to date drivers.

also - do you really need the midi keyboard and the interface going at the same time? for example, when I lay down phat drum beats I just use a silly little $5 midi to USB cord with my midi drum pad, then put all that aside and plug in the interface when it comes time to do the guitars and such.

Register your product w Focusrite. Log in and go to DOWNLOADS. All of the manuals, quick start guides, drivers and available software downloads are there. The MIDI should automatically be recognised by the the inferface once you have the driver for the interface installed. Keyboard > MIDI out > Interface (MIDI in) > USB/Firewire out > Computer. Make sure that whatever program you are using for recording and running samples/VSTs is set to receive on the same MIDI channel that the Oxygen is sending on (or set for OMNI).

Install all software and drivers prior to connecting the Saffire and powering it up.
