Re: Need Help with 3-way switch wiring

On either switch, terminals 4 and 5 are the collectors (or wipers).

Hence, in the SD diagram in your opening post, the terminals would be numbered,

1 5
2 6
3 7
4 8

Re: Need Help with 3-way switch wiring

i connect 1 and 3, and 6 and 8 together? and 2 and 7 go to the volume pots?

Re: Need Help with 3-way switch wiring

1, 2, 7 and 8 are linked. On a Telecaster, this connection goes to the volume pot.
4 - Bridge PU hot
5 - Neck PU hot
3 and 6 - unused

Re: Need Help with 3-way switch wiring

does this look correct to you? outer two terminals connected. next terminals to volume pots?

Re: Need Help with 3-way switch wiring

No.

The jumper connections across the outer contact pairs are correct.

Nothing should be connected to the terminals on which you currently have the white and black wires. (#3 and 6.) Shift the black and white cables inwards by one terminal. (#4 and 5.)

*

To be honest, not enough of the circuit is in shot to make a quick and easy diagnosis.

What is apparent from the photograph is the fact that your guitar is a pointy shape. All of my previous remarks assumed a Telecaster type circuit with one volume and one tone control. What volume and tone control configuration does your guitar have?

Re: Need Help with 3-way switch wiring

i think i understand now

1 and 2 get connected

3 remains blank

4 goes to volume

5 goes to volume

6 remains blank

7 and 8 are connected

and 2 and 7 are connected

Re: Need Help with 3-way switch wiring

How many times have you had the soldering iron to that switch? If there are no drips of excess solder bridging any of the terminals, there is every possibility that you have overheated or damaged the the internals.

The PCB is only held against the the wipers by two crimped pieces of metal. Check for waggle.

I have a theory that Seymour Duncan only illustrates CRL type lever switches in schematic diagrams for a reason.
1) Mr. Duncan may be a patriot, wishing to support US component manufacturers.
2) It is in the interests of Seymour Duncan (the company) that their pickups are represented well in customers' guitars. A reliable selector switch is part of getting the pickups heard properly.

Yeah, this switch doesnt seem very robust.
I would get a regular strat switch, but the blade isnt long enough for rear mounted electronics.
