Need help with a versatile wah pedal

I play a little bit of everything when it comes to music, from blues to death metal, and I've wanted a wah for a while. I found 4 pedals that look promising:

Morley Pro Series II Wah/Volume ($50)
Vox Joe Satriani Signature Big Bad Wah ($75)
Dunlop Cry Baby 535Q ($100)
Dunlop Kirk Hammett Signature ($120)

These are all used prices and are negotiable. I just wanted a few opinions, so I can make a good decision.

Re: Need help with a versatile wah pedal

You're not gonna go wrong with a 535Q. Even at a new price (last one I bought was $129), it's still a bargain. As it says, it's the swiss army knife of wah pedals. The only thing I wish it had was the automatic wah (put your foot down and it turns on rather than having to turn on a button), but other than that, it's awesome.

Re: Need help with a versatile wah pedal

I love my BBE Wah.....but they're about $150......Very vocal sounding and has a tweakable sweep range.

Re: Need help with a versatile wah pedal

See if you can find a Vox Clyde McCoy. IMHO its one of the best sounding wahs out of the box unless you go Teese or Fulltone. I have a Clyde & it is the only wah that has not been modded in any way. It sounds just fine the way it is. I own 4 Wahs. An 847 modded by my buddy John Spina, two Thomas Organ Company wahs also modded by John A Vox Clyde McCoy as well. My favorite is the Thomas Organ Company Crybabys. They just sound more vocal then most others. Now I don't really play any metal, but I do play Classic Rock & blues based stuff. The Crybabys do it for me.

Why not get all of them:

Boss PW-10. Should be easy enough to find under $100, built nice, and has a bunch of different sounds in the box. This is one of the pedals they've done right.

Re: Need help with a versatile wah pedal

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, but these are the only good wahs I've found used (I don't want new because it's expensive). I think it's gonna be either the Big Bad Wah or the 535Q. Anyone tried both (or either)? What do you like/dislike about them?

I own the Mc-404 CAE/MXR wah and its extremely versatile!!! Ill never need another!!

I have the Dunlop 535q Crybaby.
When it became faulty, I sended it to Dunlop to get it fixed ASAP.
It's a great pedal, very versatile. I know there are better wahs out there (better sounding for applications), but the Dunlop 535q really gets the job done!
Highly Recommended.

I used to have a Morley Dragon Wah. While it was easy to use, I didn't like the Morley's sound.
I prefer Dunlop Crybaby's.

Re: Need help with a versatile wah pedal

I've had two 535Q's, the current one with the Fasel red inductor. While I haven't tried many wah pedals, I can say this one does everything I need a wah to do. It's thick and organic sounding, at least compared to the others I've tried. More importantly, it lets me get the sounds that are in my head.

That'll do, Pig. That'll do.

Re: Need help with a versatile wah pedal

Anyone tried the 535Q with an aftermarket inductor like a halo clone or a whipple etc. My VOX is kinda all over the place sounding (did some mods then replaced the switch and then the pot and it sounds alright but it doesnt seem to have alot of clean headroom or something and isnt exactly the tone I want) and I want a simple replacement and just wonder how other inductors sound.

Re: Need help with a versatile wah pedal

My 535Q has the red Fassel, and I love that wah! Highly recommended!

Re: Need help with a versatile wah pedal

No excuse for anyone to get anything other than the 535Q, except you owned a Wah before they were invented.

Re: Need help with a versatile wah pedal

On your list I'd get the 535 if you want versatile if you're willing to buy a way that's not on the list I like the BB535 Multi Wah better than the later 535Q but that's just one opinion.

The only other inductor I'm familiar with is the yellow Fasel, which is EQed a little higher than the red. I've used a CAE wah with the yellow Fasel for some funk stuff, but I got rid of it after I got my second 535Q. I think that's really where the yellow Fasel works best in.

Re: Need help with a versatile wah pedal

That Boss pedal looks interesting.

:dunno: I'm fond of the Ibanez Weeping Demon.

Re: Need help with a versatile wah pedal

I don't use a wah but I've messed with several. The only one I liked was My buddy's Vox 847a. It's the only one I'vetried that didn't skew the sound of the guitar.
