Need help with amp selection

Re: Need help with amp selection

Go used. When you start going through your used market (and get some experience there) you start finding vintage amps that priced lower and might be way better then the new ones.

Here you go:
www.ebay.com.au

Re: Need help with amp selection

seached day and night in ebay and cant find a used one from australia. A used amp from the US cost 500 for the shipping lol.

Re: Need help with amp selection

I'd go with eithe a Vox Valvtronix or Line6/ Bognor if at all possible... so many great sounds, you'd be buying more than 1 amp to boot!

Re: Need help with amp selection

Hey hey i could get the AC15cc1 for cheap!!! Is it a good amp?? Suitable for my style? Is this or the AD50vt more suitable for me?? The ac15 is full tube though. So is the AD50vt 50watts much louder and powerful than the AC15 15 watts?

Re: Need help with amp selection

So now its between the ac15cc1 and the ad50vt. Please give me some suggestion guys :)

Re: Need help with amp selection

I love the Vox AC15... it would work for brit stuff like Radiohead - York and Greenwood used Vox AC30's during the 90s which is the bigger brother I guess. Not sure what they are using now.

It would be also suitable for early Led Zeppelin I guess... add the right fuzz pedal and you might just nail the tone.

For modern British rock, and for Classic British rock (Queen, Status Quo, Yardbirds) - you just can't beat the Vox AC30/AC15 amps.

Re: Need help with amp selection

Suddenly interested in the orange tiny terror as i think 15w tube is more than enough. However, can it be played without a cab?? Can i just plug in a guitar and play or do i need to get a cab as well? If a cab is needed, again budget will be over
I think they are releasing a combo version to. I like the valvetronix amps but I love the vox tones and would go for an ac15 if I were you but you should definitely try before you buy cos vox's aren't everyones cup of tea.

Re: Need help with amp selection

I checked alot of youtubes video and the AC15cc1 seems like an amp for clean bluesy tunes and not suitable for using for hard rock types like GNR and metallica and maybe even SRV tones. Any idea on how the AC15 sounds with full gain? Is it powerful enough.
LAst question, which is more powerful and louder for gig usage? I heard the 15 watt tube is loud, but is it louder than 50 watt modelling when using for gig? So should i just go for AD100vt instead?

Re: Need help with amp selection

With pedals ac15 should be able to get a decent rock tone although not metallica and is good for radiohead stuff. You may be better with a valvetronix because the ac15/30 emulations are really good if u want that tone and the other marshall, fender etc emulations arent bad either!

Re: Need help with amp selection

Yep, on its on, it is not a high gain amp... Page used it with a fuzz pedal (there are other recent threads here about his pedals), the Radiohead guys used Proco Rats or other distortions, Brian May used a treble booster etc... SRV also used a Tube Screamer with his amp (Vox get more distorted on their on then most Fenders in my experience).

If the main thing you want is Slash, maybe the Valvetronix amps are your better bet... On the same note, it took me some time to start appreciating how important are sweet sounding pickups (like the APH) for Slash's tone, while I used to think it is mostly about a big Marshall.

As for output - while gigging, I'm always amazed of how well a Hot Rod Deluxe competes with the 100 watt Marshall TSL half stack I use when we play both in usable volume... if you play small venues you don't need a huge amp. If you play big venues your amp is amplified through a console anyway. So don't go crazy and buy the biggest amp you can get.

There is another Australian here that plays professionally and gets amazing tones from his small Fender Champ...

Re: Need help with amp selection

So i guess a 50 watt valvetronix is enough for now :) Thanks guys!! Gonna go to a music store and see whether there is one to test it out!! If im patient, ill save the money and hold on to get an orange rocker 30 or a tiny terror combo once its available :D

Thanks so much for the input

Re: Need help with amp selection

Thank you so much johnnyguitar!!! wow yesterday was like none..today lots of new axes and amps appear!! So amongst that 3, which would you go for? Ohh also add the AD50vt.

Re: Need help with amp selection

I'm a Peavey Classic user - the smaller model... they are very sweet sounding amps, not my first choice for GNR or Zeppelin... but still a great sounding amp.

For what you're looking for this JCM might be a catch but I have absolutely no knowledge about this specific model. There are a few Marshall gurus here - make a thread about it.
