evo2/mo joe/crunchlab/super2/steves special/ paf jo/....I have used the bluesbucker/ humbucker from hell and the dual sound which i like alot...I have a few guitars with duncans so i am looking at these dimarzios now......Its for a jackson dinky 1 pickup bridge guitar and a 2 humbucker maple body w trem westone st model......
I do not play metal or chug chug chug stuff or death metal or super heavy rock....I play more bluesy/ crunchy just breaking up stuff all the way to stones/ bryan adams/van halen fair warning stuff/ pat methaney/ 80's type rock like ac-dc tones...so from cleaner to bluesy to just breaking up to fun overdrive but not into metal territory.

Any ideas eith what to look at or what to stay away from?....Looking for versatile pickups that are spanky and ballsy yet clean up well with no mudd and good upper mids and highs with clarity yet grit.....I play p90s alot and singlecoils so i guess it would be great if the pickup(s) split coils well and sound good...I feed the super distrortion2/ dual sound do split well and also do series /parr we;ll with nice upper mids and no mudd.....if i should just stick with a dual sound thats cool too....i heard the super 2 is basically a super distortion with more top end??...anyhow the pickups i listed are on my list so please recommend to me your thoughts and experience. thanx

I think you'd dig a Fred, but the VHPAF or 36th Bridge are probably what you're looking for. I'd stay away from the HO stuff except maybe the SuperD (dual sound).

Used to play evo2 and mo joe, currently play a crunch lab.
Evo2 is very sensitive to pole piece adjustments. The bass strings can get very muddy if not set correctly. I sold another evo2 before because it was so muddy I thought it was defective. When set correctly, it has the thick low mids of the tone zone, but with 'ceramic' crunch/presence. I think it's pretty close to duncan SH6 distortion, with even more "wall of sound" thing going on.
It sounds phenomenal for lead. It has the original evo's midrange focus, without the ear-fatiguing scream. It sounds really deep, complex, drenching with 3D harmonics.

I switched to mo joe because the evo2 was too powerful (the guitar was a HSS, with dimarzio cruisers in the neck and middle). The mo joe was exactly what I expected, medium-hot, tight bass, balanced sound, but in the end I think it sounded kinda bland.
Some people say it doesn't quite have the same magic as the original (dimarzio FRED), I tend to agree with that.

I currently play a crunch lab in a basswood HH superstrat. Although it is a hot output ceramic pickup, It can do perfectly the tones you described, it's very versatile. It has this crunchy/buzzy presence that is quite similar to those heard in 70s, 80s classic rock recordings with cranked marshall plexi or JCM, and it cleans up nicely with volume control as well.

thank you....i have narrowed to dual sound- yes its high output but from what i have heard is very versatile ...PAF 36TH...crunchlab...super 2 and maybe fred......
this vid is interesting but from 11 min on he uses a dimarzio sd in a partscaster and its pretty ballsy...i am more his style of playing..
