Need Help with Coil Split Wiring

Hello everyone,

First I apologise for my English, it's not my first language.

I should mention that I don't really know much about this wiring stuff, but I hope that with your help and with much patience I get this done. I really want to repair the guitar and where I live there's no one who could help or do it for me.
The case is that recently I found an old guitar in a garage, Im pretty sure it's a Ibanez 2020 from 1970.
It has two DiMarzio Humbuckers in it, I think one of them is a Super Distortion and the other one I don't know... It looks like a Crunch Lab.
The HB's do work fine but everything else, switches, knobs, output jack are broken or damaged. So I need to rewire everything.

The Neck PU to the PU selector, and from the PU Selector to the knobs and Jack seems complicated but I think that from seeing how it's wired now I can replicate it.

The problem is the Bridge PU, which goes to a mini toggle switch and from there to the PU selector. I think it's for coil spliting but I don't know....
It's not wired cleanly and looks like a total mess to me, so I won't be able to replicate that part.

I would really appreciate if someone could tell me how to wire that part.

I would like it to be this way:
Mini Toggle Up = One half of the Humbucker
Mini Toggle in the center = Full Humbucker
Mini Toggle Down = The other half of the Humbucker

From the HB 4 wires come out, 1 White 1 Black 1 Green and 1 Red.

I'd like to know how to wire that to the Mini Toggle and from there to the PU Selector.
Also which type of switch do I need for that type of coil spliting?

Thanks to everyone who takes the time to help me out, and if I forgot to mention something important or didn't wrote it clear enough please tell me.

Re: Need Help with Coil Split Wiring

Does the little toggle switch have 2 positions or 3? That will determine what purpose it served, but probably won't affect the wiring. I'm guessing it was for series/split/parallel if it was a 3-way switch, and series/split of it's 2-way.

There are diagrams on the main Seymour Duncan site for 2 humbuckers and however many pots you want and what you want them to do (2 volume 2 tone, 1 volume 1 tone, etc.), and if you want one or both pickups to have coil splitting.

Re: Need Help with Coil Split Wiring

Thank you,

The mini Toggle is broken, I don't know how many positions it had. I only know it has 6 lugs (not sure if it's the correct word)

I've looked through the wiring diagrams from Seymour Duncan but didn't found anything like I described, I'd like to be able to split only the Bridge HB in a way that I can use both sides of it separately. Switching to one side of it and to the other side. So if someone could help me with that it would be great.

But if that is to complicated then I guess I'm gonna use a two way switch for Series/Split.

Re: Need Help with Coil Split Wiring

I've been researching a lot these days but I really can't find anything that shows the wiring how I want It to be...

At the Seymour Duncan site I have looked at a lot of diagrams again and they are helpfull for other parts of the circuit I want to make. But I really can't find one that shows the part I have described above.

Could someone explain me that part?
Like i've said, I would like to be able to split only the Bridge HB with a 3-Way mini toggle like this: Split/Series/Split
Allowing me to use both coils separately.

Re: Need Help with Coil Split Wiring

The mini toggle will not function the way you want. You can get series/split/parallel but not split/series/split to other coil.

Since you only want the splitting on the bridge pup, I would suggest using a Triple Shot mounting ring. This will give you four choices - series, parallel, split to one coil, split to the other coil.

Keep in mind that if you use a SD wiring diagram you'll need to change the wire colors (DMZ colors are different than SD). Here is a conversion chart: https://docs.google.com/gview?embed...ent/uploads/2016/05/WD_Pickup_Color_Codes.pdf

Re: Need Help with Coil Split Wiring

I've decided to wire each HB to a mini toggle switch to get Series/Split/Parallel.

After researching a lot I think I know how to do it, I just got to questions left...
1# Would a DPDT on/on/on 3 way mini toggle switch work for that?

2# I don't find a wiring diagram at Seymour Duncan for the wiring. Instead I printed out two diagrams, one shows 2HB>PU Selector>Pots>Jack and the other one 1HB>Serial/Parallel switch>Pot>Jack.(See Below)
All I have to do is mix them, right? Take the second diagram to wire the switch, and then the black cable that comes out of the mini toggle, wire it to the pickup selector like shown in the first diagram. And continue wiring the circuit like it says on the first diagram?
The diagram only shows Series/Parallel but it says that for Series/Split/Parallel it is the same wiring, but a different switch.
The thing that confuses me is the ground cable. I don't know where it has to go after the mini toggle.

Re: Need Help with Coil Split Wiring

If you had a 3-way mini toggle that was on-off-on, then you could split to each coil. But I don't think it would sound significantly different to be worth it. Having parallel as an option is much more useful.

Re: Need Help with Coil Split Wiring

Hello,
I now have time to start with the project :)

But I still haven't found an answer to the questions above.
Could someone help me with that?
Thanks
