need help with next pickup

I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me with my pickup situation.
I have a 1990 korean made Squire telecaster with all kinds of upgrades. It has a worked neck that is super thin for fast playability, Gotoh tuners, new string trees, etc. My big question is with the Little '59 pickup I just put on. I put the Little 59 on with a new H-A-S sound wiring harness with four way tone switch and push/pull tone knob. My problem arose when i tried to use my stock neck pickup in series or parallel with the Little 59. They sound great seperate, but very terrible together. I'm looking to correct this by buying a new Seymour Duncan pickup for my neck position, I don't know which one to buy though. Can anyone help me. Feeling stuck like chuck guys...

Re: need help with next pickup

thanks for the suggestion. I'm not wanting to router my pickup hole though. I need a good single coil neck p/u suggestion. :1:

Re: need help with next pickup

someone's gotta have an answer... I think i may go with the STR-1 but i would like something a little more hot.
Any one have a STR-2?

Re: need help with next pickup

I dig the STR-2. It's pretty deep on the low end, with a thick, juicy mid response that's good for blues licks and jazzy comping.

Re: need help with next pickup

Thanks guys,
Mike, is phase a pickup or do you mean fx?
Benjy, Have you heard that pickup it sounds like a good match for my little 59 which is workin great for the jazzy type blues sounds that I love. I think I may go with that. I will post my work and some pics when I get done.

Re: need help with next pickup

i own one. I had it in my tele paired with a STL-2, but i replaced it with a Screamin Demon.

What he means is your neck pickup is probably out of phase with the Little 59. That is why they sound good separate but bad together. Before you buy a new neck pickup, try flipping the hot and ground wires on the Little 59. Not knowing everything about your switching system, the simplest explanation is to put the green wire where the black one is now, and the black one where the green one is. If you do decide to put a Seymour Duncan neck pickup in, at that point you would go back to the old way at that time. (the way you have it now)

Re: need help with next pickup

ohh,
thanks frank, I will definitely check that out! never even crossed my mind to be honest. It almost sounds semi muted when they are together and that could be it. Honestly wanting to replace that old pickup anyway given that it is an old squire tele pickup, nothin special. But to save some time and money I will check that out tonight.

Re: need help with next pickup

Hey,
?I found the phase to be correct, oddly enough after tampering it sounds better. Still not the sound I'm looking for though. Any fender neck postition pickup suggestions. I thought about a vintage noiseless or texas special. Any thoughts?

Re: need help with next pickup

er,

what kind of music are we going for here? do you want true single coil or hum cancelling. do you want tele contrast? mellow neck with a sharp bridge?

i'm not a 100% tele expert, but i think there are 2 camps for the tele neck; mellow or strat snappy.

i know a jazz cat that swears by the tele neck with some tone knob fiddling for killer jazz tone. of course its a tele neck with the cover on it, mellow.

or you can get a specialized pickguard that accepts a strat single coil size. then your options go through the roof.

Re: need help with next pickup

heard that,
I would want a little strat sound in there. The 59 has that mellow jazzy tone already, but it can get little poppy if i change to single coil with push/pull tone knob. I'm thinkin I want some strat bluesy sound ya know?
