Need Help with Pearly Gates Trembucker

Re: Need Help with Pearly Gates Trembucker

a PG works so well with the SSL1 in neck and middle. THey're not noiseless, I know, but good shielding goes a long way. The tones are just to die for. Very classic, very pure.

I am for sure going to have to agree with this, I have tried all kinds of different humbuckers and single coils in tandem in HSS strats and I always come back to at least one guitar having 2xSSL1's and a Pearly Gates. I have a Pearly Gates Plus that I tried with the SSL1's for a little while once. I thought it sounded more hollow and less full then the Stock Pearly Gates. The Pearly Plus sounds bloody fantastic in mahogany body with a maple neck and rosewood fretboard, or a classic les paul mahogany body and neck, maple top, and rosewood fretboard setup though.

Lots of great suggestions here, so many to choose from.

I ordered the Kinman Blues Neck & Middle pick-ups to pair with a Pearly Gates Trembucker. I will also be using a ToneShaper circuit board, which looks really flexible. The Kinman's are being processed in Australia, so it'll be a week before I see them. Can't wait to see how this works out.

Sounds brilliant, make sure you wonder back over here and let us know how your guitar goodies worked out.

A pair of Kinman AVn-62 Mk-Is?

I'll tell you I'm completely blown away by every model Kinman that I've heard and they have quite a few. I would take the Impersonator 56s over SSL-1s in a heartbeat.

The AVn-62 Mk III and AVn-59 have really caught my ear as well. I'm guessing the 59 was the one being recommended to go with the PGb?

I really doubt any of the true single zealots have tried any of these models. Then again some will just insist that they don't like them merely based on the fact that they are non-traditional.

I think the OP made an excellent choice in going with Kinmans.

What do you plan on doing for position 2/how will you be combining the bridge with the single coils?

I want to split the Pearly Gates, but haven't figured out a way to do that with the ToneShaper circuit. I'm open to suggestions. On the other hand, I rarely use position 2.

FYI, pickups and remaining parts for new Pickguard due in on Tuesday. Keeping my fingers crossed on how this will work out.

Yep, MK-I pups. I'm really looking forward to these. I was torn between these and the Woodstock pups. Both sound fantastic from the various clips I've listened to. Can't wait to get the parts and put in all together. This is my first time modding a guitar.
