Need help with soldering/wiring 59 neck pup

I just picked up a 59 neck pup and noticed it just had the one single wire with the hot (black) sticking out at the end. I pressume that the rest of the wires (red, green, and bare) are already taken care of inside the insulation, right?

Anyway, the schematic here says I have to connect the black directly to the toggle switch.
But the schematic that came with the pup says I have to connect the black to the volume. Does it make a difference?

My guitar has 2 humbukers, 1 volume, 1 tone, and a three way toggle switch. Thanks.

Connect it to the switch. If you had two volume controls, like a Les Paul, you'd connect it to its volume control and then the output of the volume control to the switch. But you don't. So connect it directly to the proper terminal of the switch. Lew

The schematic here also shows a 500k pot for tone. Is that what I need, or is it more of a preference thing?

I'd go 500K for both volume and tone. Lew

Re: Need help with soldering/wiring 59 neck pup

I worked on my guitar all day yesterday, and it sounds like crap. :(
Please answer this important question:

Was I supposed to take the green, bare, red, and white wires out, and connect them/insulate them the way other humbuckers are soldered? Or was I supposed to leave those wires INSIDE the metal insulation they came in?

*edit!!* The schematic says "shield grounded" :smack:
DO I have to solder the metal shield to any metal?!

I am going to take my guitar to a tech tomorrow and just pay him to do the remainder of the work :(
