Need help with string gauges

Hi everyone,

I've been using 11's on my les paul for about half a year now, because the frets on the guitar were buzzing like hell with 10's. It had a pro setup recently (fret level, intonation etc.), the buzz was still there but with significantly lower action. Then there's my left hand that gets tired really fast (I start playing and suddenly my fingers don't move as I want them to... I've been playing the guitar for more than six years, and this only happened with 11's.). I tuned my guitar a half step down, and it feels way better, so I think my hand can't handle 11's, I need to go down to 10's, or even 9's. The problem is, that the guitar is currently set up to 11's, and if I go down to 10's or 9's it will propably buzz more. Or it won't? I can adjust the neck, that's not a problem, but should I try 11's topwrapped first? Thanks in advance!

Re: Need help with string gauges

If you have easy access to strings, try the top wrapping first (you already have those), and then go down to 10s. On an LP I couldn't use anything higher than 10s myself, as my hands would hurt. And I am not going to be in pain to play.

Re: Need help with string gauges

Thank you! I'll try top wrapping with the strings that are currently on the guitar. They are elixirs and I noticed that they are way stiffer than for example a set of daddarios. Should I worry about fret buzz if I go down to 10's?
