Hi! I´ve just bought a dimarzio x2n humbucker, and I´m waiting for my new p-rails to be delivered.
My problem is that I don´t know how to wire them. I have two push/pulls and a 3 way switch. I just want the p90 and the single-coil sounds, as well as the series wiring. I´m not so interested on wiring in parallel too.
I saw some diagrams of two humbuckers and of two p-rails.
If I follow the dual p rails diagram, should I wire my humbucker the same as if I was wiring another p-rail?

You have not made clear what you require of the humbucker. (Just full-on series coil connection? Some other options?)

It would help to know what style of electric guitar you are modifying. It would help even more if you described which type of three-way selector switch you have. (There are so many different types!)

On a Gibson-inspired design, in addition to the pickup selector switch, you will need a mode switch for the P-Rail. This would normally be a Double Pole Triple Throw on/on/on mini switch. The push-pull pots can serve the same function. The series coil connection option will be available even if you don't require it just yet.

On a HH Strat-alike guitar, you could wire a five-way selector switch to give the following sounds.
1) Bridge HB only
2) Split bridge + Neck Rail
3) Neck Rail only
4) Neck Rail + Neck P90 in parallel
5) Neck P90 only.

This would be both simple and logical, with a nice range of sounds. The only tricky part would be choosing which coil of the X2N to use in position 2 and then translating the DiMarzio conductor colour codes into Seymour Duncan format.

have you visited the wiring diagrams pages on both the DiMarzio and the Duncan sites?

The guitar I´m modifying is an Ibanez 321mh, an HH strat type guitar. It came with a 5 way switch and 2 normal pots. I bought the 3 way and the push/pulls because I thought that it might be helpful for the split option for the p-rails.
My 3 way is like this:

But now you mention the 5 way switch option, I think it would be just great. I am still needing the push/pull pots if I use the 5 way?
I don´t know which coil from the x2n to use, if it really matters I will investigate a little bit. And translating into seymour duncan format may not be so hard I think.
Do you have any diagram that may do what you just told me, I will be SO helpful.

It gets better. If you still have the original Ibanez electronics, the selector switch is not a straightforward Fender style five-way. The tracks on its PCB permit some clever pickup coil combinations. Have a look at the part number sticker on the side of the switch. I shall turn my mind over any worthwhile applications for it.

I have an Indonesian-made RG321MH. It has a lever type selector switch. Stick with this switch format. The encased three-way toggle type switch in your photograph is notoriously unreliable. I strongly advise against using anything that cheap.

On a twenty four fret guitar, I would be inclined to use the bridge pickup coil nearer the neck for split mode.

Ok, so I should keep the 5 way switch and ignore the 3 way one. But what about the push/pull pots I bought? should I use them?
And regarding the bridge humbucker, I will use the coil that is nearer the neck for the split mode as my neck has 24 frets. Everything OK.
But what I need now its a DIAGRAM!!
I don´t know where to get one for this specific case. Funkfingers, do you have any diagram I can use?
I like the positions you mentioned:

That sounds great to me. I have no idea how to wire that, but if you help me it would be great. I think that maybe I´d prefer Bridge HB+neck rail in position 2 and split bridge+neck rail (or neck rail only) in position 3, I mean if it´s possible, because I don´t know much about wiring.

There is no need to use push-pull pots.

Obviously, for your guitar, the neck and centre single coils are physically joined to each other. The bridge position humbucker is a different size to the pickup illustrated in the schematic but this is unimportant.
