Need help with wiring!

Hi guys, I'm building a guitar and I basically have no idea how to wire it. I am using a single humbucker (Ibanez inf2) a 3 way Gibson style toggle switch, 500k volume pot and a momentary killswitch. I know I would like full humbucker and single coil positions on the switch, but I have no idea how to wire this so I'm asking you kind people for help :) please can I have any suggestions as of the third switch position you may have too :) thanks!!

Re: Need help with wiring!

Welcome to the forum.

The Gibson 3-way is a very limiting switch in its versatility. The only thing you could do is have it full humbucker in both the up and down positions, and then split to just one coil when in the middle. Probably not what you want to do.

Thanks! That would actually be very useful :) I just didn't want a blank position, would you be able to help me out with a wiring diagram? Ignore the killswitch for the moment as I know how to wire one :)

Re: Need help with wiring!

No prob man. I'll post the diagram as soon as I get home from work tonight.

Edit: However, it's easy to describe. Connect the pickups hot and ground like normal. That is, green to ground and hot direct to the volume pot. On the 3-way, solder the center two terminals together. Don't connect them to anything else. Now, red/white go to one outside terminal and ground the other outside terminal. Thats it.

Re: Need help with wiring!

Life saver! But my INF2 has three showing:
white that is my hot or full humbucker
red that is the split coil connection
thick Black that is the shield and pickup ground
*confused face*

Then white to the volume pot, black to ground, red to where I said do red/white. ;)

Re: Need help with wiring!

Yes. But you'll probably have to rotate that 3-way 90-deg's to get the pickguard back on.
You may also have to swap it with the kill switch.

Re: Need help with wiring!

So am I ignoring the green wire in that diagram? And I need to add a ground wire on the other lug of the switch to the jack? Or is the ground I have on the switch, okay for that? Thanks so much for your help :)

Edit: and don't worry about that I'm just using this pickguard as a holder, I have a new blank on the way :)

Re: Need help with wiring!

The ground you have on the switch now, is the "chassis" ground. It's to eliminate hum when you touch the switch. You'll still need to add a jumper from one of the end lugs to ground. A short jumper from either end, to the ground you have now will work fine.
