Might be picking up a Fender Tele to ad to my arsenol and want to load it with 2 HOT SD pickups, need some idea's,suggestions, recommendations, etc,,,
Need it to cover harder music,ZEPPLIN,BAD CO,AC/DC,etc but also cleanup well for lighter material,BEATLES,BEACH BOYS,EAGLES,ETC,,,
Classic Rock/Hard Rock.
Kind of like Ritchie Blackmore's tone, metallic sounding with a bite to it.
Thanx if anyone can helpout!
Also, not looking for the silver or gold cover neck pickup, want both to match.

Re: Need "HOT" Pickups for Tele!!!!!!

The Jerry Donahue model will cover what you're going to do. As far as getting an uncovered neck pickup, I've taken the covers off normal tele neck pickups (very carefully) with no ill effects.

Re: Need "HOT" Pickups for Tele!!!!!!

If you get HOT Tele pups...you WILL loose the Tele tone...If I were you I would get a Tapped QP for the bridge and find a good match for the neck...If you have extra cash, call up MJ in the CS and get something done there. Like Benjy_26 said...it's not too big of a deal to pull of the covor in the neck pup...good luck...lewt us know what you get!

Re: Need "HOT" Pickups for Tele!!!!!!

i use a strat pup in the neck with my qp tele lead. a ssl2 works really well

Re: Need "HOT" Pickups for Tele!!!!!!

I would suggest Quarter Pounders but get them tapped so you can still go to a decent low gain tele sound when needed.

Re: Need "HOT" Pickups for Tele!!!!!!

Well the QP rocks no doubt, one of my fav pups. I run a Tele with a pair of tapped QP's and it is a killer but....not anything close to Blackmore's sound.

I am thinking a Hot Tele Lead might be better in the bridge for you and you can still tap it and bring it down for some of the other styles you want to cover. Then either a QP tapped neck or the Hot Tele Rhythm in the other spot.

Re: Need "HOT" Pickups for Tele!!!!!!

Thanx, the quarter pounders are leading the way here so far.
How do you get them tapped?
Also Someone mentioned about putting a strat pickup in the neck spot,do they fit as the tele neck pickups look small and thinner?
Im looking more for a ROCK MACHINE as I know Jimmy Page used a 58 Tele on there first album and it sounds so killer!
Plus its Jimmy Page to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanx

Man I've got a set of non-tapped set Qps and they rock HARD! I can see the virtues of getting a tapped version but with the pup selector in the middle position I still get a good tele sound. The bridge still twangs just in a different manner. With my Z set to sound brighter I can get a close Page Communication breakdown sound.

Re: Need "HOT" Pickups for Tele!!!!!!

You can order QP's 2 different ways, tapped or not.

I run a 5 way switch to control the bridge pup and the neck is on a push-pull on the tone pot.

Page's sound is much different than Blackmore's though. If you just want a flat out rocker than the QP's by all means but for the few dollars extra for the tapped version even if you don't use it at first grab them. It makes them so versatile it isn't funny.

Re: Need "HOT" Pickups for Tele!!!!!!

Kool,The quarter pounders sound like an in your face sound.
Are we talking STRAT QP's OR TELE QP'S? Or doesnt it matter?
Do they come in sets?
Thanx

Re: Need "HOT" Pickups for Tele!!!!!!

for your tele it is much easier to get the tele set. when i put a strat neck pup in a tele i usually have to widen the pick guard a touch but thats it. putting a strat bridge pup in a tele sucks

Re: Need "HOT" Pickups for Tele!!!!!!

i dont know if they are sold as sets, so not really as far as i know. you just need to get:
STL-3 which is the bridge pup (lead)
STR-3 which is the neck pup (rhythm)

Re: Need "HOT" Pickups for Tele!!!!!!

I went with a Little 59' in the bridge and a Classic Stack in the neck. Perfect Tele tone with the coils split and a serious monster with it in humbucking mode.

Re: Need "HOT" Pickups for Tele!!!!!!

Skarekrough, Are they strat or tele pickups?
Some of the reviews at Harmony Central say the quarter pounders sound muddy when played clean,I definitely need a nice, full, clean sound.little bites ok.

Re: Need "HOT" Pickups for Tele!!!!!!

my bridge pup doesnt sound muddy at all. if a pups gonna sound muddy itll usually be under distortion, not clean. weird

Re: Need "HOT" Pickups for Tele!!!!!!

I hate to say it here, but look at my sig, The pickups in my Schecter tele are best I've ever used in a telecaster.
