Need Info on North & South Resistance

Anyone know what's the North & South Resistance of these humbuckers? Hopefully its measured around 25°C, 30°C would be perfect because I live in much warmer climate.

78 bridge
JB bridge
Jazz neck

I will trade info on some of humbuckers too. Currently I have Alnico 2 pro and Dimarzio Double Whammy.

Post here if interested :D

Re: Need Info on North & South Resistance

Do you mean the individual coils???

The K readings are on the website, and the coils are wound evenly...no offset.

Re: Need Info on North & South Resistance

Ya individual coils. Maybe the jazz might be evenly wound but no way for the 78 and JB I'm not so sure.

Re: Need Info on North & South Resistance

there is a tolerance for the coil winds but they should be balanced. the example you linked to on tgp is an extreme example. that 8.65k coil is really hot. bet that pup sounds good though

Re: Need Info on North & South Resistance

Those are evenly wound except for the 78 which has a large offset between coils

Is it the slug coil or the screw coil? I'm guessing it's the screw coil.
With the screw coil closer to the bridge while having more turns it should pickup more treble and harmonics which makes the pickup more articulate. It's just a thought I may be wrong.

Re: Need Info on North & South Resistance

who told you the '78 has a big offset or any for that matter? cause they are mistaken

Re: Need Info on North & South Resistance

Yep, on the thread I linked Evan himself weighed in and said it wasn't.

The pickups are wound to the same number of turns per coil.....which is the important aspect here. Several aspects of the wire and wind can lead this to have varying K reading once the coil is finished. Of course we as consumers don't have access to any other metric but K, so we assume that there is a coil offset.

Would the same number of turns yet 2 different wire gauges read as mismatched? Say one coil used 42 and the other used 44?

Re: Need Info on North & South Resistance

I'm still uncertain after I saw this thread at the gear page
http://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/unbalanced-coils-in-new-j-b-humbucker.883156/

So maybe there's a slight mismatch in the number of turns?

That thread was hilarious. They didn't specify the conditions. Is one guy in Brazil, in June, and the other in Michigan, in February? Do they have Tenma/Radio Shack meters, holding the leads with their fingers?

Or are they in a temp and humidity controlled lab, (68 +/- 1 degree), using a calibrated HP 3458A DMM, after the pup has acclimated for 24 hours? (Like I do.)

Huge difference. ;)

Artie

P.S. I didn't mean any arrogance there. Just that I'm lucky enough to have those conditions available to me. So I use them.

Certainly......I think maybe 30% + difference in K reading. 42 and 43 are 17% different in k/foot

but on some coils that have alot of windings..increasing wire gauge .. could decrease the amount of turns.. or atleast i think it should

It could... but NewC specifically said same number of turns. There are times particularly between like 42 and 43 you can get the same number on the bobbins. It just means your 43 bobbin is full and your 42 is not as full.

Even in the thread you linked a guy calls SD customer service and is told "Nope no mismatch" and you STILL believe there is one?

Fer crimenys sake!!! Now i know why people start punching kittens and kicking puppies....

Interesting
I based my assumption on some old threads on the pickup maker forum
http://music-electronics-forum.com/t8064/
I cant find the original evh story
& I've tested these specs wound with even coils & with the mismatch ...I prefer the mismatch for the evh tone
