Need More Bass From My BlackHeart Hot Head BH100...

Hello Everyone, New to the site, nice meeting all of you.
I have had this Blackheart BH100 Head and 2 matching 4x12 cabs to make the complete Blackheart Full Stack as it should be...but I need gobs more bass. I love the amp and cabs but I'm looking for something like a quick cap change or fairly simple mod to boost my bottom end. Last resort is swapping the speakers, but for now I would like to focus on the amp head. I've talked to Michael at eurotubes and I've got the JJ's 6550 in there, since like the 2nd month I owned it. I followed his instructions and re-biased it to his specs. I have also read the 3 or 4 postings on this amp and the mods in This forum but its been 2 or 3 years and nobody has touched it since, so can anyone help me out. I do a lot of guitar tech wiring so swapping a cap is no problem but I do Not read wiring diagrams so maybe someone could guide me through. If its a simple de-solder and re-solder for 047 caps that's not a problem for me or even a potentiometer/cap install for the marshall-like Resonance Control mod but the last few posts on this topic just dropped off and I'm a picture/caption kind of guy for info lol.

Wow!

You mean, by dropping the treble, mids, and presence and boosting up the volume you can't get enough bass out of that amp? Even with JJ's? And two 4x12's?!

8 Speakers and you need "Gobs More Bass"....?
Just chalk it up to personal preference I guess.

Do you have a schem.?
Probably the easiest would be to increase (assuming it uses them) the value of the first Cat By-Pass cap(s).
Another effective and relatively easy method would be to increase the value of the phase inverter coupling caps.
I would try those for starters.

no schems but if you wanna dig into I would find em, and Cat By Pass caps are where? Phase inverter coupling caps are where? I've read up somewhat on this and everyone says this amp is wired similar to Marshalls.

You would have to post a few, clear pics for me to go any further with this.
I am talking about the cap (probably elytic) that is connected to Pin 3 (or maybe Pin 8) of your first tube and ground.
The PI caps connect the PI plates to the Power Tube grids, but there can be a few things in between.
You need pics and then I still might not be able to see it, but go ahead and try.
Try an AT7 in the Phase Inverter and see if that helps at all.

We can only be talking about stage sound.....right.?
Have you actually gone out into the seats and Heard what your rig Really sounds like.?
Those must be some pretty sorry speakers in your cabs, or the Worlds crappiest Out Tranny.
Have you tried new Power Tubes.? New tubes in general.?
What does your bass player think of all this.?

here's whats going on, I've got a home studio and my bro has his Bassman 50 with 2x15 cab and I have my Blackheart full stack. His in one corner and mine in the other. We get together and jam metal and other stuff, old school stuff, not death metal. I let him sound check and then I match volume. His bass blows me away! I'm trying to match it. It's gona be a amp head mod or speaker swap for me, I'd rather tinker in the amp with caps myself. Yes If I really push the amp it gets better bass but I'm in a tight area, neighbors are cool but you know the deal.

Its not stage sound, studio and a medium size at that, we are trying to get it together ya know, I can take pictures this weekend if you wana mess with it. thanks again,

I will let some other members give you their advice at this point, but.....
It kind of sounds like there is something "wrong" with your amp. You should be able to compete with his 50 Watt head.
Maybe dead tubes (only one way to find out), or maybe.....
...You should check the phase of all those speakers in both cabs. Just disconnect the 2 cabs and then check each quad. A 9 Volt battery across the open end of your speaker cable will tell the tale. It may help to have somebody watch with you.

These amps are relatively new on the market, and from what I've researched, everyone what's more bottom end from them. Its an entry level amp but has lots of great features, just needs some love.

right! In loudness yeah, no problem, but bottom end punch he walks away. He has boom! Hats off to that. the speakers are all stock Blackheart Eminence, one straight 4x12 cab and one slant 4x12 cab. I did open one cab to snap a picture of the speakers and I can post that but I feel its in the head. How do I check for a dead tube?

ZZ might have a good point there. If your speakers are out of phase your bottom end will drop right out.

what are the odds of the speakers being out of phase from the factory? they are all stock, a mistake perhaps? is that what you mean. I guess thats possible. The cabs are 300 watts 16ohm per cab, I have them daisy chained together and plugged into the amp in the 8ohm plug.

Only one driver needs to be out of phase to throw off the whole thing, if that is indeed your issue.

Your problem is that you're comparing your amp to a Bassman. As the owner of a 68, I can say with much firsthand exprience playing at gigging volumes (and actually gigging, hah) that those amps have an absurd amount of bass. What you should try to do is eq your amp to complement your buddy's amp.

Or just get a Bassman.


There's a really easy way to check if the speakers are out of phase - use the bassman and see if it lacks its regular amount of low end.
