Need more clean head room

Re: Need more clean head room

Yeah when mic'd I usually just keep my volume relatively low and let the PA system project it out as much as possible... Also having an amp stand at home helps me tailor my sound for where the mic gets it so its not too bright and trebly infront of the speaker.

Plus cleans are totally overrated :P

Rockstar - if you don't mind me asking, how have you got into a position of playing gigs to thousands of people and having a rider where you can specify the amp of your choice ? No disrespect intended but I've heard your playing and I would have thought that you've got a little way to go before you start playing huge gigs.

Hanging around the right people and being in the right circles plus I've been out playing for about 5 years and have met a lot of people. And no disrespect taken that vid you probably saw didn't display my best playing ability nor did the recording quality help. I'm not the best player in Ohio by no means but I'm not far from them and I know a lot of em personally and can hold my own with em but with that said their aren't many guitarist around my way. Ill try to post another vid to show case my playing a bit better in the near future.

Re: Need more clean head room

If you replace that 70/80 with a more efficient speaker, you will probably find that your amp has a fair amount of more clean headroom. I replaced the 70/80 in my Traynor YCV40 (40 watt 1x12) with an Eminence Cannibis Rex and was amazed at how much louder and cleaner the amp got. It's pretty surprising how much "overdrive" can come from a speaker.

I have been really digging the Eminence Wizard/ Governor/ and Commonwealth. I really would like a 2x12 with the wizard and Governor to compliment each other.

I also liked the GH-65 and Alnico Gold from Celstion

Indeed. I also have this exact set-up for my vintage Traynor amp. Haven't had a chance to play through it much, but so far...AWESOME.
