After checking out the tone chart and comparing to pickups I have in various guitars, I've come to a bit of a problem. I need more mids from a pickup. My absolute favorite pickup in the neck is my Hot Rails. I need a humbucker that produces the mids that the Hot Rails does.
In some other guitars I have 59s, a Jazz and an EMG 89. Sticking to the Duncans, I like things about both the Jazz and 59. They are both clear and articulate. I don't find the 59 to be too bassy like others have said. I just want some more mids, maybe something a little more compressed with higher output. Something to help smooth out the tone. I'm a bit worried about an Invader in the neck as I don't want too much mud. This mystery pickup would be going into a Charvel 750xl - mahogany body, set maple neck, rosewood fretboard, maple top with 24.75" scale and string thru.
People have recommended the Pearly Gates, APH-1, and even a JB in the neck. I'm a little worried those will be a little too bright for me, judging by the tone chart and comparing the neck humbuckers I have in other guitars.
