I need to get an ohm meter. Im looking for the best value in relation to qaulity. I cant get an expensive one-i dont need that, im not a pro-tech. I just need to measure some resistances so when i buy a pickup i can see if its good before putting it away and to measure speaker cabinet ohms. I'm afraid of Rat shack stuff, but i dont know. I would prefer a clearance or sale type deal on a meter. Thanks

The Radio Shack ones are fine. I have the small simple cheap digital one and have been using it for about 3 years now. Not one problem with it.

This is the one I have: LINKY!

Re: Need OHM meter reccomendations please

I have two meters that I got through work. The first is an older Fluke 87 that is way over-qualified for general use. Great meter, but too much.

My second meter is a Fluke 177 - smaller, cheaper, not quite as many features, but still very accurate and it has all of the usual Fluke durability. Highly recommended.

If you took away both meters and told me I had to go by myself one, I'd buy a 177.

Re: Need OHM meter reccomendations please

The Fluke is a great meter, but there's nothing wrong with a cheap meter. I use a $3 Harbor Freight special for my "chores". But I always use the Fluke for serious stuff.

Something is better than nothing. If you can afford the Fluke, without it cutting into your beer money . . . go for it.

Edit: Just to be clear, the $10 or $20 meter will do fine for general guitar work. The Fluke is the Cadillac.

$200 for a multi-meter? :eyecrazy: If I was an HVAC Engineer or Electrician I could probably justify that but just to measure pickups and such in guitars and DIY pedal projects? No way.

Now, I would like something nicer than what I have that can give transistor readings and such. I just haven't had the need to get one yet.
