Need pickup advise for Schecter C1 E/A

I'm looking to change out the Duncan designed HB-102's for some better pickups (it also has a piezo pickup in the bridge). I'd like them for playing clean/classic rock/Alternative. My son who plays this more than I do likes mainly classic rock and favors Gibson Les Pauls.

Thanks

welcome to the forum!!

i think a 59n with a custom 5 bridge would suit that guitar and those styles pretty well. what amps do you typically use? as long as the amps arent thin and bright those pups should work well. they do nice clean sounds, especially with both on, and classic rock tones easily when dirty

Thanks, my amps aren't that great a line-6 spider II 75W and a microcube. I'm only unhappy with the line-6 because it's hard to get the clean channel to sound good. I normally run a Roland GT-6 to the line-6 and use the microcube for the piezo when I feel like running multiple sounds (this sounds great when I do this).

The 59n/C5 is a pretty cool combo when playing through a British voiced amp and it will cover all the tones you mentioned. If you want to push your Schecter more towards a LP sound though, I would look at a PATB-1n/PATB-3 combo.

I finally got both pickups annd had them installed a couple of weeks ago. I ended up getting the pickups recommended on this post, a '59 for the neck and a Custom 5 on the bridge for the transparent black guitar in the pictures. I also replaced the tone and volume switches on this to tap the coils for single or humbucker. The tone with this pickups is great. I think it gives the guitar the classic Gibson sound. My favorite set up seems to be with the neck on a single coil and the bridge humbuckered. It has a lot more output than before at least with these 2 pickups. I'm really glad I opted to tap the coils giving me 24 variations on tone when included with the piezo bridge pickup on this guitar.

I have one question though when I pull up the switches on the volume and tone to switch to single coils and I make any adjustments I get static. This only happens when I make adjustments to the tone or volume and only if the switch is pulled up for single coil use. When I play it sounds fine. Is this normal or do I need to take it back to the Luthier who installed them??

I have a similar problem. I have the Schecter C1 E/A and am thinking of the 59 SD for the bridge and the Pearly Gates for the neck. Does anyone have any comments regarding this choice? I play mostly classic rock, country, and religious. Thanks in advance.

Live a good honorable life. When you are older and think back, you get to enjoy over again.

Let's jump in again...

Yep, just picked one of these things up for a song and am working thru options.

Do know that the stock HB-102s are AL5s and given the sustain possibilities of this gtr, it seemed that something AL2 was in order. Right now it is very dull with a lack of definition if ANY overdrive is applied (forget anything more wooly, got other guitars for that.)

To recap, we are working with a mahogany semi-hollow body, maple top, set neck, rosewood board. Right now, thinking of chromed Pearly Gates in the neck and a Custom Custom in the bridge. The thinking here is that both those PUPs lend themselves to coil tapping, are bright, and if you are gonna hit the bridge looking for output, might as well hit it hard.

Thoughts?
