Need pickup for heavy metal

The guitar: Ibanez RG, basswood body, maple neck, floyd rose tremolo.

Need a bridge passive pickup for metal. It needs to be good at downtuning. Will use them in a guitar which will be tuned in anything from D to drop A.
I want one of these four pickups, but don't know which one.

Full Shred
Duncan Distortion
Invader
Dimebucker

the distortion, invader, or dimbucker would work for metal in your guitar.
(i gotta ask) drop A?why would one possibly need to be tuned that far down?

I'd go with the distortion.. I have one currently in an RG with a basswood body and maple neck and trem.. I have the edge trem too by the way.. I don't know what your's is.. but it rocks with the DD, but it is just a tad bright for me, but it would be perfect if I tuned down.. I know because I did so.. just to see, and man it sounds like Zakk Wylde on steroids or something.. It just rocks!

I would go with the Distortion also. Having said that, I had a Custom-7 in my old RG1527 and it handled the low strings just fine. I tuned it down a half step to B flat, and the Custom stayed clear enough.

The Invader is a great at providing a thick, crunchy palm-muted metal sound...providing it's in standard tuning. It tends to get a little muddy and undefined, an effect that would probably be unmanageable tuned that far down.

DROP A :question: :question: Why, how, huh? What size strings are you using? Even with my 52's I can't get articulation below B (and very little there). I guess the ZW 60's would pull it off....

Any of the pups the other guys mentioned.

id go with the JB or DD. i have an invader, and its good but in something like drop A itd be way too mushy

For drop A I use 13-62, which is a baritone light D'addario set.

About the DD I bought a used guitar once who had it and I didn't like the sound....but the amp I used wasn't that good so I don't know what to think of this pickup.

As Gamera said the Invader would possibly be too muddy for downtuning.

Think I'll try the dimebucker. If I like it I'll maybe post some clips here when I get it installed.

about that band and their tuning: sure its heavy, but let the bassist take care of the low end stuff. and you can be HEAVY with out being BASSY.

Think I'll try the dimebucker. If I like it I'll maybe post some clips here when I get it installed.

you'll probably be happy with the dime. and if your not, theres always the 21 day policy

man i play metal so heavy, drop A cant even handle it! i have 3 guitarists and we all tune our guitars to drop C, 3 octaves below normal drop c. i call it a real man's tuning. we use heavy duty steel cables used for pulling s***!

Custom or Distortion :D

Don't let Zerb hear you guys questioning drop tunings... I think he used to go down a whole octave...

For super low stuff go with the Distortion or Dime.

I put my guitar in Drop A for fun at band practice, I was also using a Dime in the bridge, and it sounded killer!

Too bad your ears can't hear sounds that low.

Everyone keeps either over looking the Full Shred or, they have not had much experience with it. If I were you, the Full Shred would be my first pick followed by the Distortion. Those 2 will probally be your best bet.

Sorry to use this topic, but how would the full shred be too bright on a guitar with a mahogany body and a ebony fingerboard?
