need recommendation for hi-gain pup

Re: need recommendation for hi-gain pup

DD Dimebucker or Emg 81.... any of those would be good, but also maybe try out the 85 i really like those... maybe not what you want but it is one hell of a pickup.

JB for metallica sound? doesn't come even close to me. If you do not want active pickup, your best bet is INVADER

dimebucker and the x2n are almost the same arent they?
wont they be too extreme for me?
what do you say about the dimarzio x2n?
i heard a lot of good reviews about the x2n and a lot of bad reviews about the dimebucker.

Re: need recommendation for hi-gain pup

I have 2 Ibanez RG's that are Basswood with Maple/rosewood necks. I have a DiMarzio SUper Distortion in one which is perfect for it and a MegaDrive in the other one. Again, perfect. I play predominantly Metal, in the Ozzy Osbourne vein with a but of Metallica and Nightwish type stuff also, and both those pups do it for me.

I also really like the Full Shred, although it is quite Bright...

Re: need recommendation for hi-gain pup

ok thank you all good people, probably i will go for the DD.
any more suggestions? what about the x2n? it looks very interesting
but i'm afraid it would be too much for me, after all it's suppost to be the most extreme passive pickup

and what about the invader? what do you say about it?

there's also the PATB Distortion to consider. i've heard it in use with an RG550 & it's applaudable- maintaining bottom end thump & an overall clarity

ROFL

Wow, I'm not the biggest fan of Ibby guitars either Zerb, but calling it asswood might have been taking it too far. ;)

:burnout:

Definately not. The X2N would have a lot more in common with the Invader than the Dimebucker.

For one, the dimebucker's got a bit less output, and a much "sharper" tonality. Its a pretty rockin pickup...but only in the right guitar, and to the right player. I liked certain aspects of it (great crunch, cut real well), and really disliked other aspects (notes had a tendancy of sort of blending together in a buzzy almost-white noise).

I'd say that the PATB 3 Distortion trembucker, or the standard Distortion trembucker would suit your needs very well.
