Need recs for bridge pickup

Re: Need recs for bridge pickup

I've got the Schecter C1. Great guitar! I went through many pups and mag swaps in mine. The Custom 5 and Custom 8 were terrific. I ended up with a P-Rail regular/neck model mounted in a Triple Shot ring. Amazing tones from this setup. And, frosting on the cake, this is also the very most versatile guitar I own (and that's now over 50).

I'd recommend trying some different mags in your CC starting with the A5. The A8 is great in the Custom and is perhaps my favorite of any possible Custom iteration, but may sound a little heavy/dark in your guitar. There's a lot of mahogany in that guitar and it has a natural full-bodied and dark flavor to it. It is a perfect foundation for a P-90 (like in the P-Rail).

It is a great guitar, and yes, has a naturally full, warm and somewhat dark tonality.

I've had it for 15ish years now. It originally came with Duncan Designed pickups but they were muddy-sounding and I switched those out for the real deal with the CC and the 59 not too long after I first bought the guitar. And while I did state I'm satisfied with the 59, I wouldn't mind something a little bit brighter, a little more bite?

The P90 idea intrigues me - not something I had really considered before.

If you're looking for something somewhat similar to a '59 but brighter, try a Jazz. In addition to being brighter, it's also slightly scooped so it had a nice clean tone that's somewhat reminiscent of a single coil. It also pairs great with a Custom; I've had that set in my Explorer since 2003 and it's amazing.

Re: Need recs for bridge pickup

You claim to be deaf, but still able to hear the "piercing highs" of a ceramic Custom. Typically with hearing loss one loses their high range first, so forgive me if I agree to disagree regarding the relative tonality of the Custom and C5.

You don't need to hear an icepick jabbing your brain to know it hurts.

Re: Need recs for bridge pickup

Well...he's happy with the 59. It's the CC that he's disenchanted with.

A P-90 by itself in the bridge of the C1 is amazing. But frosting on the cake would be to have the Rail, series bucker, and parallel bucker all wrapped up in the same package as that P-90...viz. the P-Rail.

Re: Need recs for bridge pickup

No, no, no! Heavens NO! The highs in the Custom (ceramic mag) are nothing like the highs from a C5. You don't even need to be deaf (like me) to hear the difference...you can FEEL the brittle piercing highs of a Custom.

You're crazy. A5 and A8 are both far more harsh to my ear than a ceramic in a Custom.
