ok here is the deal.. I have 2 guitars I want to sell and not really sure how to go about it.I know about how much ill ask for them which i think is a fair price. Im not much on shipping stuff so it will be local CL.Guitars are never played and I could use the money for other things atm

any advice would be appretiated. I have the pictures taken but have yet to place the ad. Ill do that tomorrow

the guitars in question is a black ESP LTD M-107 7-string in fair condition loaded with a PRS BASS and HFS. I also installed a 5 way and it splits the humbuckers on the 2 and 4 position

2nd guitar is a dinky mutt.. DXMG body,DKMG neck, jackson tuners,580lp bridge, and Iron Gear Volts which are actives.. the D saddle of the 580 lp saddles was ground ground down a bit but doesnt affect the operation of the bridge in the slightest.. body and neck are otherwise in very good condition

thx all

Re: need some advice

You need to know what the guitars are worth, not what price you want. I have bought and sold well over 100 guitars the last few years and not really knowing what a guitar is worth is the number 1 problem new sellers usually get wrong. They almost always overprice. Base your price on actual sales, it's the only way to know. Good luck.

^^^I'm going to have to second this^^^ I know from personal experience that just because you have a guitar that even on paper should be worth $600, typically your lucky to get half that on the selling market? You might get that $600 or something closer to it one day but your probably going to be sitting on it for a long while waiting for that one guy who wants exactly what you have to come along and even then you'll have to be sure he can't get the same thing someplace else for less, cuz he will.....

well.. well in my case.. what i want is actually less than what its worth..

as for the last statement kinda hard to do that as 1 is a mutt and but i know exactly how much i payed for all the parts, As for the M107.. they dont come up for sale all that often but i know the approx. value

ESP LTD M-107 awhile back i had seen them go for 200 to 225..I paid like ~225 four years ago.. Ill accept $175 but absolutely no lower especially since i just dropped another 60 in in 6 months ago for new pups, pots and a new 5 way.

Jackson dinky I put together 6 to 8 months ago and has a 2007 DXMG body in pretty good condition and a 2007 DKMG neck in great condition with almost 0 fret wear, and it has real actives.. ill paid 330 and ill accept 225 but no lower

only trades ill EVEN consider, is a fender or jackson case at 50% to 60% of what is worth, if its in good condition + cash to cover the difference.. seriously.. if someone meets me and trys to pull a fast one by bringing some **** to trade other than a case. ill go back home without so much as a word..

im not giving my sh*t away but i will make my sell prices reasonable.. I HATE f*cking selling ****.. I dont care about selling so much as i really hate dealing with people .. especially strangers... I barely tolerate people I call friends and family LOL....

ill type up the add later

this i know..I asked for advise about really how not to get ****ed around on CL.. i need no help in setting prices..guess I should of been a tad more clear im 48 and been around guitars for 30 years.. I know the market value of every guitar I own and every guitar is documented on a excel file with prices paid,~market value, work log with dates, spec, mods w/ dates. Im very thourough.. LOL

Re: need some advice

I get on ebay, find the closest thing to it, and make my price $40 bucks cheaper than the lowest priced item listed.

Re: need some advice

Thx.. I think my prices are very fair that I have set. I honestly cant see going any lower as im not giving my guitars away. $175 for my M-107. Not to be confused with a M-17 not the same guitar as this one has been out of production since 2000. The dinky mutt will be a bit harder to price but i cant see going any lower than $225, especially since it has actives in it

these prices are fair.. Im in effect asking ~100 less for each than I had paid for them myself. As I said, Im not giving the stuff away. I believe in setting a fair price..

Im just selling them as in my current living arrangements, I just dont have the room and I never play them. I cant justify keeping them anymore..

I really just wanted advice or pointer with dealing with CL as this is my first sale. I think I have it figured out though. Ill meet any prospective buyers by a parking lot by the place im staying at

I use eBay and Reverb as a good starting point for my prices--don't go $40 lower though lol

I personally would recommend meeting at a public place and not at the place you are staying--some crazies out there and they may want to pay your place an unexpected visit to get the "good stuff" you are not selling....just saying.

I've had a lot of luck with trades on Craigslist--have sold some stuff but majority of my sells have been here on the forum and on eBay/Reverb. Pictures will get you more views.

Best of luck!

I never worry about what others think about my asking price. If you think its a fair price go for it. My equipment is in mint condition when I decide to sell it. I have never had a tough time selling my stuff. I will hold out til I get the price i'm looking for. Someone will pay the price if the guitar is in excellent shape.
