Need some DI Help!

I looking for a DI, but not sure what to get, I have researched alot of different ones and so far I like the Tech SansAmp 21. Here is some information I have uncovered but can you guys give me some input?

Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI Features at a Glance:

The controls offer a broad range of traditional bass amp sounds, including such meaty styles as Bassman® and SVT®, as well as raunchy, crunchy overdriven sounds that would typically require a multitude of effects units.

PRESENCE controls the amount of definition and upper harmonic content.

DRIVE adjusts the overall gain structure and overdrive.

LEVEL regulates the XLR and effected 1/4" output levels.

BLEND allows you to mix the direct bass signal with SansAmp Tube Amplifier Emulation circuitry (which is particularly useful for basses equipped with piezo pickups).

BASS & TREBLE are active EQ controls, specifically tuned for bass guitar, that cut or boost +/- 12dB.

For studio and live applications, SansAmp Bass Driver DI is engineered with three outputs: an effected XLR, and effected 1/4", and a parallel, uneffected 1/4".
The footswitch activates the Tube Amplifier Emulation circuitry.
Disengaging the circuitry enables you to use SansAmp Bass Driver DI as a standard active transparent direct box.

Sample style settings include Bassman®, SVT®, King's X, Slap, Reggae, Crimson. Settings are also included for Chapman Stick and Acoustic guitar.

Re: Need some DI Help!

Sorry, "small stage" venue (Church), I'm currently using a small amp, but we got a new PA

Re: Need some DI Help!

Do a Geddy. Bass through SansAmp device into PA. Industrial washing machines in place of traditional backline. :)

My main bass amp is a tc electronic head and cab. For the kind of engagement you describe, I could just carry the amp head, remote switch and some cables.

Re: Need some DI Help!

Yeah I was thinking the same thing lol. I see Tech SansAmp has the Tech SansAmp 21 and the Tech 21′s VT Bass DI. which is better?

Re: Need some DI Help!

The Tech21 Bass Driver is kinda the Swiss Army knife of bass DIs... If it doesn't get the sound your after, it'll get you pretty dang close... I used one on my clip in the Record Anything Right Now thread... I set it a little more slappy than I usually do, but check it out...

They're both good, but designed for different things. The VT Bass is a pedal designed to sound like an SVT which can also be used as a DI. It doens't have the versatility of the regular bass driver, but the SVT sounds should be better. The Bass Driver is supposed to be more of a swiss army knife, but you may want to look into a Para Driver instead. The difference here is that it loses the presence control (which is centered too high to be of much use) in favor of a sweepable midrange which is very useful as the bass driver is rather scooped on its own. The only downside is that the Para Driver doesn't have a blend control which shouldn't be an issue unless you're running it quite dirty.

If you want to do the Geddy Lee thing, run a Bass Driver set rather dirty and mixed 50/50 or so into a Para Driver set clean. Run the Para Driver's output to your PA and toggle the Bass Driver on and off for clean / dirty.

Re: Need some DI Help!

yep the sansamp BDDI is brilliant. its a swiss army knife for bass.
you can blend in or out the speaker simulation, overdrive and presence from your dry signal.
It has 3 outs that you can run simultaneously for different purposes, and switch the impedance levels.
you can blend you dry signal with as much or as little speaker simulation as you like.
basically it does everything you could possibly need in terms of being a high quality DI, an active eq, an overdrive and amp simulator, direct to desk recording device etc etc. It can also run off phantom power if your battery dies.
Its killer.
Buy one.

Re: Need some DI Help!

the original line6 bass pods can be had for pretty cheap now.
