Need some help is this B.S or True

25k or 500k
Was at the music store looking around and got to talken to a guy that worked there as there guitar Tech, we got to talking about vol. and tone pots.

Now he said I should have used 500k pots for my pickups because the 25k was more for single coil pickups.

I told him I used what SD blackouts AHB-3 came with and to what the Inst. Said to use.

So is this true or was this guy full of B.S.

25k's are used with actives. You're fine.

He's thinking of 250K pots and passive pickups. The Blackouts are active pickups which typically use 25K pots. He's confused.

He probably had his numbers mixed up, 250k is usually recommended for single coils.

Actives use 25-50k pots, depending on manufacturer, and don´t care about anything above that.

That is what I was thinking he was going Tech. on me with all kinds of stuff.

He also said If I wanted he could do the 18v mod for me.

He said it would make the AHB-3 even more better sounding.

I told him I do not think the 18v mod was for the SD but more for the EMG.

At that point I was thinking okay he is just wanted to take my money.

He probably wasn't aware the Blackouts were active at first, and if he's talking about doing the 18v mod, it's clear he doesn't know how the Blackouts are different from EMGs.

18v mod on blackouts is not a good idea. unlike EMGs where it increases headroon and dynamics, with blackouts it really DOES increase the output.

How much does it rise you ask? If you need a clean tone AT ALL , for ANYTHING, do not do it

Just to throw it out there, the Duncan active Jazz bass pickups use 100k pots. Very convenient.

How much does it rise you ask? If you need a clean tone AT ALL , for ANYTHING, do not do it

Ahh, interesting.
I've been told by a lot of people the 18 volt mod on Blackouts barely does anything noticeable at all.
Clears that up then.

The pickups are already hot and sound great, I did not think the 18v mod would do any good.

I have no plan on doing the mod just wanted to know if it was true.

And not some ass-hat like at guitar center talking crap, like I had last week tell me the Raven half stack was better then a Peavey 6505 half stack.
