Hey guys I have recently upgraded my guitar with a set of Black Winter pickups and turns out my Roland cube isn't cutting it anymore... So I'm looking for a new amp that will have heavy Distortion at all volume levels as I do need to practical quietly at night I have a budget up to 1000 dollars any suggestions.... I play mostly metal like whitechapel Ola Englund etc.... Any suggestions...

Maybe something like a Hughes and Ketner Tubemeister? They have a selectable output and a built in speaker emulator for silent recording.

Re: Need some new amp suggestions

Do you want power switching too, so you can go from bedroom to rehearsal/live? If we're just talking bedroom stuff with your budget I'd go with the MiniRecto, If you don't mind one channel the Dark Terror is a fantastic amp and it's well within your budget...

I really like the 5150 III combo, 50 watts to 1 watt.....The Laney IRT's are awesome too...

I'll check out the dark terror and see what selection of peaveys are available near me to try....

If you can hold out for the next generation Peavey Vypyr Pro it'll be a modeling solid state (as opposed to digital) amp.

Re: Need some new amp suggestions

I have a Blackstar HT studio 20 and it's just amazing for what I use it for (metal and hardpunk)

Re: Need some new amp suggestions

OK thanks for all the input... Does anyone know how the Blackstar ID series perform

Re: Need some new amp suggestions

The Blackstar ID series will perform quite well, but a used 5150/6505 will do metal better.

One more question.... I do have a line 6 pod hd300....can I just get a good set of monitors and run everything through that or will it not be on par with a decent amp?

that is easy to do and would be good enough for practice, but lepoulin and IR impulses would sound better and are cheaper and you can record...

Re: Need some new amp suggestions

Laney Ironheart 60. Has a wattage control so it sounds good at low volume. Buy the Ironheart60h (650) and a used cab for under 1K.

Ola has a demo of this amp on his youtube channel.

Re: Need some new amp suggestions

I'm not sure where I can find a Laney Iron heart nearby to try but I will see what I can find....

You can order from zzounds for $649, but if you return you are responsible for shipping both ways. Better to buy from MF and have them match the price. In case you don't like, they will cover shipping. I think you will like it.

The matching Laney 2x12 is about $300 new. There you go, a rig that sounds good at reasonable volume and loud enough to play with a band. Or buy a used 412 from somewhere.
