I just bought a modded 1997 California Series Fat Tele with an Alnico II Pro™ in the neck and Little ‘59™ for Tele in the bridge. When the guitar arrived, I was initially disappointed to see that the original 5 way Fat Tele switch had been swapped out for a 3 way . . . . until I realized that each of the pots had also been swapped out for push-pull units to split the 'buckers separately, effectively giving me 8 separate configurations (if I did my math right . . .).
Now the problem - every so often, a real nasty hum develops, which is quickly resolved by messing around with the pots up and down . . . . But this is of course quite annoying and ultimately unacceptable. There is a ground wire to the bridge, but I am too much a novice in this area to try to describe in any meaningful detail how exactly the pups are connected to the switch and pots. However, if someone had any suggestions, or could point me to an appropriate wiring diagram, it would be much appreciated.
If I can resolve this big hum issue, I'll be real happy with this $380 purchase. Thanks in advance . . . .
