Need something better than Boss Flange

Re: Need something better than Boss Flange

Wow, the EVH wasn't a thick enough flange for you? As an extremely happy owner of one, I'm inclined to agree with the above post that it's your single coil P/U's ruining it for you. That, or you had a faulty unit. I use one and it's an incredibly thick flange. I love it.

Go to http://www.superswamp.com, click the link at the top right to open the player, and listen to the song "Black River Blues". Towards the beginning, at the beginning of the second and fourth phrase, then periodically throughout the first verse, you'll hear a "warbling" "D" chord in your right speaker. It's subtle and more there for texture than anything else, so you may have to listen for it as it's only there a few times. But that's the EVH through my Marshall rig, with a MIM strat with a Duncan Lil Screamin Demon in the bridge, guitar volume backed off for clean tone.

BTW, the rhythm guitar (left speaker) is running through an EVH phaser.

What a about the old BF-2b, the bass flanger? I know people who have used them for guitar, and been very satisfied.

Re: Need something better than Boss Flange

Thanks for all your help guys.

I'm gonna experiment with the idea that the lack of mids might be the culprit. I usually use the 4th position on my strat (middle & bridge pups) when the flange is on. I have a boss eq 7 in my pedal chain. I'm gonna tweak that to boost the mids and see if that helps...

The interesting thing is that when Morello is playing drop d riffs, he's using a stock Tele. I think he usually uses the neck pickup, maybe try that? I can't be sure because using my Tele, his Flanger and a Marshall style amp I still couldn't nail it.
