Alright guys, I've got my american strat loaded with Texas Specials and I love them....but my other strat, the strings and things custom..I put my american strat pickups in there...but they're just a bit too brittle. I've gotta find something that tames the high end of the strat...it's just naturally trebly...any suggestions?

Some A2 pickup single coils? AP2s maybe or even the Custom SSL5 or 6s?

I don't know, would they do what I am looking for? I realize John that you seem to have more varieties of strat pickups than I can fathom (looking at your pickup list)...is there any of them that you find particularly middy or balanced? like I said, gotta tame the treble a bit...no hurty of course, I can always just highly adjust the amp in hte meantime

The best combination overall for me right now has been the Twangbanger/Surfer/Surfer....None of these pickups are shrill or toppy...The Surfers have chime, but they aren't toppy...

Are you looking for a vintage type single coil tone or a ballsy tone? Are you willing to give up chime and clear note articulation for a rounder overall tone?

The Surfers and the TB in the bridge is pretty hard to beat. From there you can dink with your cap values..

Re: Need strat pickup suggestions

I really dig the Twangbanger/APS-1/APS-1 setup in my strat bro. I've yet to try the Surfers though.

Re: Need strat pickup suggestions

i use the aps2's with a twangbanger bridge and i love the tone. the surfers are great but if you want a tone with more mids try the texas hots, both are great sounding pups. the texas hots have a warmer fuller tone without as much chime or as thick a bottom as the surfers. i have both and love them but the hots push the amp a little harder

Re: Need strat pickup suggestions

Have you looked at the SCR-1 Cool Rails? It is not very trebly but still have a very clean sound. May be you also want to look at the SHR-1 Hot Rails if you need a much hotter sound.

I love my APS2's, do the Antiquities get a better Hendrix type of tone?
I'm not really inot the SRV sound.

Re: Need strat pickup suggestions

thanks guys, I'll definitely do some looking into these pickups. I appreciate all the suggestions! I do use the tone knob, but I'd like to be able to have full tone and not be so brittle, like I can on my american strat.
