Need suggestions on a new speaker cab

I am waiting on delivery of the Seymour Duncan PowerStage 700. I’m downsizing my rig and need some input and suggestions on a good 2x12" speaker to complete my newer, smaller, better sounding amp. Looking for input and reasons why you made the choice you did. Thanks

Re: Need suggestions on a new speaker cab

You want a premade, major brand cabinet with speakers? Or, an empty cabinet where you can choose your own speakers? What is your budget? Cheap will most likely get you an mdf cabinet with, maybe, with brand name speakers. But you are limited to what they put in the box. MDF cabinet is probably fine if you aren't going to be gigging with it. More money can get you a ply cabinet with, definitely, brand name speakers, but still limited to what's in the box. And that can be from reasonable money to big bucks.
Depending on your budget, maybe look at someone like Avatar speakers. They make all birch ply cabinets. 2x12's in several styles, including a convertible back (open/closed). You can get them loaded, with your choice of speakers, or unloaded. Unloaded cabs start at just over 300, depending on style. Loaded, with Celestion V30's start at $379, again, depending on cab sytle. That's a real good deal for a good, all ply cab loaded with 2 Celestions. I don't work for Avatar. I do have two of their cabinets.

Of course, there are plenty of other options from plenty of different companies.

For inexpensive, empty cabinets, there is Seismic Audio. They are plywood, but a bit thinner, 1/2" ply as opposed to 3/4". Good, budget cabinets, but not as solid or rugged. I think they also sell on ebay, for a bit less than direct from the website. https://www.seismicaudiospeakers.com/collections/guitars-guitar-cabinets

If money isn't a concern ... then disregard everything I typed ... :D

I picked up a used Avatar 2x12 with creambacks that sounds utterly amazing. I play a variety of rock, more dirty tones than not and the combo works incredibly well for me.

I got a 1x12 convertible cab from Greg's Pro Audio about 10 years back. It came empty for about $150. I put an Eminence Cannabis Rex in it.
Pretty sure that they sell loaded cabs too.

In which Lancaster are you located? Getting cabinets shipped across the pond is expensive, so the advice given is likely to depend on if you are in Lancashire or in California.

Re: Need suggestions on a new speaker cab

Amazon has a Laney Cub 2x12 cabinet with Laney's own HH speakers
For $199
If you live "across the pond " then Thoman has a Celestion loaded 2x12 that is comparable

Thanks for your input. This helps a lot. Money is not an object but I don’t want to spend $1,000 on something I can get for $300. I looked at Seismic, Peavey, Marshall, Blackstar. I wasn’t sure if someone on here had the PowerStage and had tested a few. Avatar is one I haven’t checked out but will do so. Thanks for all the great information.

Thanks for your help. I’ll take a look at these. Money isn’t a problem but I don’t play out enough to justify putting $1,000 into
a cab.

No problem. I'm a tube guy and I don't know the Powerstage at all. Even if I did, desired tone differences would still lead to different speaker selections for different players. But surely someone with some experience with the amp, or similar, will chime in. And unless you go with some high dollar speakers, an Avatar cab should fall easily within your budget if you do decide to go that route.

Good luck.

Re: Need suggestions on a new speaker cab

I have a bad itch for a Mesa Thiele 1x12 or dr Z Z best 2x12. Loaded with EVM12L’s or maybe an eminence hemp dog.

Re: Need suggestions on a new speaker cab

The deal avatar has right now, the budget-contemp v30 for $379 shipped! Hard to top that value on a new cab.

Re: Need suggestions on a new speaker cab

Not many guitar cabs can handle 700 watts. That thing is going to be a literal flamethrower.

Yeah it is. I got a Traditional 2X12 from them a couple years ago with one of their Alnico's and a G12H30 for $375. I did have to pay 40 for shipping and I think another 25 opting for the convertible back. Still a real good deal. They are well made cabinets.
