Need wiring help H-S-H

I'm pretty new to soldering, I put a SD hot rails in the bridge of a strat copy already , and I want to put a DZ fasttrack1 in the neck position, this diagram is correct? (dimarzios wiring diagrams suck bad, very limited selection and confusing as they have Jems and other less then standard guitars as models).

Just want to double check before I but out the soldering iron. :nervous:

Re: Need wiring help H-S-H

Its correct, but with a couple of caveats:

1. Use this chart to see how DMZ colors compare to Duncan.

2. Even if you get the colors sorted out, the two pups may still be out of phase with each other.

Wire them up, then if they sound weak and tinny when in the middle position, swap the red and green wires on the DMZ.

Re: Need wiring help H-S-H

LMAO, well I definitley screwed the wiring up pretty good...the neck pickup is almost inaudible, middle sounds right, bridge sounds right (I think) sounds almost like a single coil clean, not sure if hotrails are supposed to sound like that...so I got to double check the wiring... Artie, I didn't understand that
chart that well, I'll give it another look though.

Re: Need wiring help H-S-H

I know it can be confusing. ;)

Do this:

DMZ green is Duncan green. (ground both)
DMZ black and white is like Duncan red and white. (SOlder them together and tape them off so they don't touch anything.)
DMZ red is Duncan black. (Use the DMZ red for the hot output, use the Duncan black for the hot output.)

Make sense? :)

Re: Need wiring help H-S-H

Thanks a lot! I tried that though and it still sounds messed up, the hotrails sounds weak, I get screeching sounds in the out of phase positions, dimarzio sounds like it might be right now... the wiring for the yamaha is different from the strat wiring on the SD wiring diagram, on that one it shows two solder points on the volume pot with pickup wires going to both solder points... on mine, all the SC pickups went to the one solder point, non went to the one with the sleeze ground and hot output, so I just copied how the SC were wired... seems like that was the wrong idea. Maby I should buy new pots and a better 5 way selector, and start re-wring from scratch?? The tone pots are 250K.... ???

Re: Need wiring help H-S-H

Plus I soldered the green and ground together then soldered that to the ground wire coming from the pot, that wouldn't make any difference compared to having the ground and green seperate but soldered togethr, right?

No, that wouldn't affect anything. Not sure what to recommend on the other. Sometimes those oddball Yamaha switches can mess you up. Also, there's usually 10 different ways to accomplish the same thing. That can make it hard to compare different companies diagrams, even though they accomplish the same results.

Re: Need wiring help H-S-H

OKay, well I'll try and figure it out, but I got another problem.. microphonic squealing, in any position with all pickups when distortion is used, did I do something wrong, or how can I eliminate this?? That high pitched screech like you hear at the beginning or end of some nirvana songs.
