I was living with prehistrionic wiring for the last ten years where I live, then suddenly, without much warning, the whole circuit breaker box toasted. Cost 1200.00 for a new breaker box.
I could overload some circuits before that happened without the breakers tripping, but now the new breakers will trip pretty easily when Overloaded now .

One good thing is a I got a new main electric cable from the utility pole to the house scott free courtesy of our local electric company.
This should provide cleaner power.

I still have a lot of 60 cycle hum if i run stiff on the same circuit as my amps.

I don't know. The wiring inside the house is still prehistoric, but I have a new breaker box.veidently the wiring is pretty solidmstuff inside unless the rats have chewed on it alot or something, which some of my wiring does not work anymore, so thjat may be the case/

The ticking is something that finally went haywire on your circuit and just a coincidence about your new neighbor- just a guess.
I think your due for a new breaker box, and I hope the box is outside and NOT in your wall..that can be a real hazard.

When I built the new house, I had a separate panel for my shop with one breaker for each wall and a 240 outlet for the next time Stratman needs a new amp! :)

Builder thought I was nuts. I also have a seep freezer and a beer fridge in the garage. Made him put in dedicated circuits in for each.

Sorry to high jack, but not having to walk over to the other side of the house was worth it. Hadn't blown a breaker since I moved in.

OH man I looked at this thread to late! I get a pop though my amp every time the condensate pump for my furnace turns on. It is 6' away on the other side of the wall. Oldest wiring in house -1945, newest 2011. I really wanting to know what your ticking was, other than a possible brain/nervous system thing. LOL

Sorry man, I'm still not sure. I'm sure it will come back though. Nothing goes right for me for very long :D

If you can ...try getting juice from an outlet that is connected to a breaker on the opposite side of the panel from the furnace's breaker.

That won't necessarily fix the problem. Breakers aren't divided between the + and - (or black & red, if you prefer) 120V lines based on left and right sides, they're divided up as even and odd slots. That is, the top two slots (left and right) are on one side of the line and the next two slots are on the other side of the line.
