Check out this clip:

In the part in the middle where he plays the cort he has an awsome heavy dark tone, and the amp's volume seems pretty low (you can hear the guitar acousticly), there's Tech21 Sansamps Tri AC on his pedal board and its seems to be on, there's also a Tonebone Hot British over there but it seems not connected. Would you say he used the Tri AC to get the distortion or did he use one of his Wizards or Mesas?

Re: Neil Zaza and Sansamp Tri AC

I can't listen to the clip (my sound is dead), but if the tone is noisey as hell, it's probably the Tri AC.

You couldn't get good sounds out of it?

It was ok, but I was very disappointed. There was a big difference between the Fender sound and the other two, but the Marshall/Mesa difference was very subtle. It was NOT made to get modern sounds, either.

My biggest problem was the noise factor, though. I've never had a distortion pedal as noisey as that thing.

i have never thought neil's tone was all that good. he doesnt surprise this time either. im sure the rig would sound better in some other hands, though.

Re: Neil Zaza and Sansamp Tri AC

I'm not talking about his tone at the performence in the end of the clip, only when he's sitting down, and I think for such a low volume he gets a great tone over there.

Re: Neil Zaza and Sansamp Tri AC

I don't know how you can judge tone based on a volume level you could talk over. Do you mean when he says "That is kinda thin..."

oops my bad. i was reading the question way wrong. sounds like he is using the pedals for his distortion duties. has a slight transistor sound to it to me. i wonder when he started using the 80's mesa preamp?
