neodymium magnets

Re: neodymium magnets

I have a Entwistle HDN in the bridge of one of my Ibanez guitars. They have very good definition, good sustain, harmonics and power but they are very bright. I knew from listening to the clips that it was going to be bright and raspy, so I swapped the nickle steel baseplate for a brass baseplate. I also shortened the poles to make them flush with the bottom of the baseplate. Trimming the poles tightened up the bass while using a brass baseplate shifted the presence of the pickup to the midrange and rounded off the highs. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

Cool idea, Matteo. Small neo mags can be more useful than full size ones I think, at least when it comes to pickups.

Another use for small neos that I've heard of is replacing the ceramic bars used on cheap Strat pickups with tiny neo discs. Haven't tried it myself but the page I saw claimed better tone as a result. I didn't bookmark the page, but a quick search turned up a couple of vids.
