Neodymium speakers - please comment

I'm interested in any comments about neodymium speakers.

How do they sound in comparison to other speakers?
What brand names are recommended?
Which suppliers are recommended?
Any specific pros/cons? (beyond the fact that they weigh less than the standard types of speakers)

Thanks to all that read/respond.

The celestion neos on their website are incredibly bright! I suppose if you play a baritone through a triple recto it might sound ok.

Thanks idsnowdog. Bright was my first guess as being a concern.

One bump before this falls off the bottom of the page.

Thanks for your understanding...even if you aren't

What is funny about those speakers is they have very small magnets with good voltage handling.

Re: Neodymium speakers - please comment

the only one that ive heard that was worth anything was the jensen. hated both celestions very shrill. the old ampeg portabass neos sounded good but were not very efficient. the new ones dont sound quite as good but are much more efficient. in general i think they will make great speakers in a couple years, but the designs need a little refinement.

they are light weight and can be very loud but they arent any where near where they need to be to replace alnico or ferrites

I give them a big two thumbs down. Yuk to my ears. In my opinion, if you need to save weight for physical reasons, go with one less speaker and get Alnico or ceramic. Or go with a head and cab to lighten the load. The only real benefit I see if the weight isssue of neo but to me they just don't sound very good.

Many thanks to all.

Sounds like they need some more time for research and development as Jeremy mentioned.

ScottF certainly came right to the point on this one....appreciated !
