Never owned a tuner pedal before... TU2 question

Andrew Lamprecht

Minion of One
but I just got a TU-2 and why is there 2 9v spots on the top of the pedal?

I plugged an adapter into the middle spot and the tuner works well but what is the other one to the left of it?

thanks.. :)

Re: Never owned a tuner pedal before... TU2 question

One can run out and power your other pedals.

Re: Never owned a tuner pedal before... TU2 question

Yep, daisy chain away. Not sure how many others you can power but I'm sure the info is available from Boss.

Re: Never owned a tuner pedal before... TU2 question

That's what she said!

Re: Never owned a tuner pedal before... TU2 question

you should pay more attention to the mA output of the TU2, and add up the mA draw of your other pedals to see if you can power them all or not.

Re: Never owned a tuner pedal before... TU2 question

The out on the TU-2 is just a straight in line out from the input plug. It's a common misconception that the TU2 "powers" your other pedals. It's the wall adapter (wall wart) that's actually doing it. The TU2 is just a link in the chain.

So the question of how many pedals it can power depends entirely on the power adapter that you're plugging into the wall. The most common ones like the Boss PSA adapter have a capacity of 200mA. All you need to do is add up the power consumption of each pedal in your chain (mA) and as long as it doesn't exceed the capability of your power adapter then you're good.

The TU2 does not have a mA output rating as it is entirely dependent on the output rating of your PSA adapter.

Sooo I can't power any big pedals... the DD20 says 200, the Morley Bad Horsie is 300.... but the smaller ones are all like 12 and 16 and stuff like that.

Re: Never owned a tuner pedal before... TU2 question

It depends on what you are powering it off of...the tuner that is.

If the TU2 is being powered from a 200mA adapter (like the stock Boss adapter) then the total you can pull is 200mA. if you're powering things like Boss OD pedals, analog chorus pedals, fuzz boxes, etc then it'll take you a while to get to 200mA but if you're talking digital delays it'll happen real quick!

Also remember the TU2 pulls like 70mA on it's own...

Exactly. If your PSA has a capacity of say, 200mA, then where is the TU2 supposed to get extra power from? Thin air?

My buddy powers most of his large board from a One Spot chained off the TU2. However, he's got a separate PSA for his DD20 because it draws too much power. It really depends what is on your board. Dirt pedals use almost no power. Modulation and digital delays start eating a fair chunk. I've got 6 pedals plus a TU3 on my board. 3 of those are dirt, the others are a Phase 90, analog delay, and a tremolo. I get by just fine with a single PSA chained off my tuner.

The alternative of course is to buy a dedicated DC power box like the Dunlop Power Brick or any of the others.

Hmm... I have 3 dirt, a comp, a wah, and the DD20.

I should be able to power all of them except the DD20 then. I don't know where the guy on the tele forum was getting his info, Morleys manual says 12 ma for the Bad Horsie.
