never seen one of these before- SG w/ body binding

Re: never seen one of these before- SG w/ body binding

The unchamfered flamed maple top and binding all scream early Eighties. Gibson issued Explorers and Vees with these appointments. The long travel bridge and TP6 tailpiece might well be retrofit parts. The whole thing could be a luthier job. New body on existing SG Special neck.

Your out by a couple of years they were made from '76-'82 this one is probably from '82. They were part of the whole firebrand deal along with the 335s and so on. I don't think they were that popular.
Those Schaller bridges are really good if you want to de tune. Plus I think they look good.

I'm a little concerned about you son, that you're having too much fun in the locker room.

Fun is no longer allowed unless approved in advance by the mystery censor. :nana:

I don't care for the first SG pic with the bound body....it just looks off to me. It screams "country music" to me for some reason. Now the second one with the carved flame top and trap markers is cool. I'm liking SG's more and more, and I can likely afford one before a LP. Even though it's not the same...it's still a Gibson.

I'm an SG kinda guy myself...but there's plenty of cheap Les Pauls out there, man. Just because it isn't a Gibson doesn't mean it doesn't rock.

Oh yeah, your right. I'd actually be very happy with an SG. I didn't mean it as a knock on LP's. I would love to have an El Diablo model, but a solid white one would be awesome too.

I really really like that (and that p90-equipped one is amazing as well).

If I could find one, I'd have my first SG for sure.

Does forum member Exnihilo own that second one? That's the name on the headstock.

I'd love to have one, so I could sell it and buy a real SG- somethign that looked like one of Angus' beloved 61's!
That "thing" would be pretty much be a Les Paul if it had a rounded upper bout.
All wrong.

Probably just a coincidence. The name of the guy who built it is also Ex-Nihilo, and he brands his guitars as such.

He let this guitar go for $1500. Talk about a steal.
