New 7 string with crunch lab

I bought this a day ago and am waiting for it to come in. It has a mahogany body and maple cap with maple neck and rosefretboard. It has a crunchlab in the bridge, is the crunch lab good in mahogany?

Can’t tell you anything one way or the other about a Crunch Lab, but that’s a gorgeous guitar! [emoji1303]

I'm not a big fan of the Crunch Lab, personally, but if YOU like, then it is good. :)

Re: New 7 string with crunch lab

You are going about this thing the wrong way, mate...

DON'T ask us if the Crunch Lab is "good"! I mean John Petrucci would say "yes, it works great in everything!"

You need to PLAY the guitar with THAT pickup through YOUR setup and tell US if it's good or not!

All I will say is that if you do a search for "Crunch Lab Mahogany" here or online, you'll find thousands of comments on that combo. But that's not saying much as no two guitars are alike.

Also, most CL users don't realize that the pickup has two VERY different tonal characteristics depending on which way you orient the bar side of the pickup!

MastaC, could you elaborate on the tonal difference due to orientation?

Ok, my suggestion that it's "very" different may be a bit of an overstatement...both orientations still sound like a "Crunch Lab". However, most players only try it positioned one way, not realizing that there IS a notable difference when turned around.

With the bar toward the neck, the sound is a little thicker and the highs slightly rounder. With the bar placed toward the bridge, the low end lightens up and the top end cuts quite a bit more.

Depending on the needs of the specific guitar it's being used in, one orientation can definitely be beneficial over the other.
