Ok, this is gonna sound CRAZY, but I'll defend the Rogue products.
I own a Rogue Herringbone Dreadnaught guitar that I got for $69.
Just to give some background, I own pretty much all american made, high end guitars. LP Standards, american deluxe strats, Martin D28s, vintage gibson firebirds, etc...
I'm not gonna say that the Rogue can even compare to these guitars, BUT...for the price, the rogue is just as good as any bottom-of-the-line name brands out there, maybe even better.
The hitch: the quality control on the rogues are terrible. I got mine, and the tuners werent lubricated, the frets were dirty, the saddle was way too high, the strings were gunky, and the nut slots were WAY too shallow.
But, that being said, if you're into tinkering with your guitar and doing some in-house luthiery and setup, you can turn this $69 dollar chinese import into something that will play like butter and stay in tune very well.
The tone of the guitar: Yes, its bright, and no where near as rich as a martion or any solid wood guitar, BUT, being that it is made of laminate woods, its much more resistant to temperature change and cold and moisture.
The bottom line is, the rogue aint gonna replace a martin, or ever be your main acoustic, BUT, if you want an easy playing acoustic that you can take to the beach, or a BBQ, or a rowdy frat party and not have to worry about it, then the Rogue is the ticket...with a little TLC and setup.
Mine is well worth the $69 bucks. It makes a great spare guitar to keep at my girlfriends place, and keeps me occupied for when she's taking hours getting ready. haha!
